just got a corolla, it was running really good with the exception of a slight miss.so i took the distributor cap off and the terminals were a disgrace, so i cleaned them with sandpaper and put it back on. now the fukker won't start. it turns over but no spark. i put a screwdriver in the coil lead and held it across the rocker cover... nothing. i tried another coil off a car that runs and still nothing. so its got me fukt. its getting fuel but thats it. so its got me buggered. anyone got any ideas?
yep. i reakon what you have done is made the gap in the points too big. what you need to do is turn the engine over with the dizzy cap off and watch to see when the points open. loosen the screw just a little and close the gap abit. not all the way tho....then put the dizzy cap back on and try to start.
also check the wire that goes into the side of the dizzy and make sure it hasnt fallen off.

did you remember to put the rotor back in?
did you break the (mentioned) internal wire from points to coil?
did you break the old ignition leads by bending them and breaking the internal carbon?
did you bump the points so they don't open (adjust so they open 0.3-0.4mm),
etc etc
