Replacing exploded 5M-E

A friend of mine (seriously ) destroyed his 5M-E in an MA-61 (I think it's the MA-60 maybe, the Toyota Celica Supra from about 84 with the single overhead cam engine, not twin cam) and he wants to put something a bit beefier in there in place of it, of course, me being the organiser/executor of these nefarious deeds.
Anyone know the legalities of putting a 5M-GE or 7M-GE into that car given that he lives in SA? Also, how different is the 7M-GE from the 5M-GE/5M-E, if there's too much wiring crap to do or fiddling around with gearbox/engine mounts then I don't know if I can be bothered... I know the 5M-GE will pretty much slot straight in, but I'm not sure how legal it is.
Any help other than "look through the forum" would be greatly appreciated.
He doesn't want to have to fork out big bucks for a 1JZ or any turbo engine swap, something that'll give it just a bit more guts with good reliability.

It has been covered a gazillion times before, but basically 5/6MGE is a no brainer, 7MGE/GTE will need extra electrical work, and the JZ/UZ series engines will need a fair bit extra work.
5/6MGE should be very easy to pass, 7MGE/GTE and JZ/UZ engines will require you talking to an engineer.

What did the 6M-GE come from? I'm not heaps familiar with different toyota RWD engines (just look at my nick ).
You have any clue what kind of things the engineer would be picky about, would brake/suspension upgrades be required or something like that be required for the extra weight/power? Or would it more be about the workmanship, or should I ask an engineer these qs

I put a 6M-GE in my MA61 Supra some years ago after the 5M-E suffered a premature death. As GT mentioned, it's a piece of piss to install as it's from the same engine family; you have to swap the sump and oil pickup but that's about as complex as it gets. I think the engine was originally fitted to mid-80's Crowns but I'm not 100% sure of that.
I just needed a mod-plate to get my car legal in Qld. No brake/suspension mods, and no engineers certificate. It may be a different story in other states though. Speak to an engineer or your local transport authority.

What displacement is the 6M-GE? Obviously it's twin-cam efi and most likely 6 cylinder.

6MGE came out in Crowns and Soarers in Japan only. They are a 3 litre 6 cylinder, essentially a 7M bottom end with a 5MGE head on them.
