What to do Mon, 06 January 2003 09:20 Go to next message
Ok guys, im new here and would like a little advice Smile
Ive currently got a 1983 Corona with a 2L 3speed auto with Overdrive (makes it a 4 speed i think) and its completely stock.
I put 2 new tyres on the front, and $500 worth of repairs into it.
Now i have a couple of questions

1) what mods can i do to help the following : Fuel economy (this car drains a fair bit of fuel), a better sound, and hopefully performance, all on a budget.
Some prices would be nice.

2) should i sell this car and get something smaller and more economical (possibly something ford laser'ish, or a dihatsu charade i saw)

Cheers Smile

hey,
i used to drive a similar car, but an 86 corona (i think any coronas before mine were leaded fuel). and whateva engine they have (well the 2.0L anyways) blows headhaskets like they were going out of fasion...
personally i would advise getting something smaller, but im sure simple things like air intake, extractors (headers) and exhaust would make your car breathe easier.
then theres always better ignition gear (plugs and leads)

hey, at least you've got a rear wheel drive car!
(note: my corona (isnt that a song?) could only preform sideways in the wet... but hey)

thanks for the reply, mine runs on unleaded.
The only problem now is finding a car thats decent around this price mark (since ive been quoted $1000 - $1500 as trade in on the corona, even with cdplayer, $500 work and 2 new tyres on it), plus $500 or so cash.
I was looking at an 87 laser for $1500 but some bugger put a deposit on it the day before i went to.

well a new car is out of the question now due to finances.
What can i do to my corona to make it sound better, use less fuel and possibly better performance.
Exhaust is the obvious, how much am i lookin at for one fitted, and any recommendations?
