if I had my time again, I'd definitly avoid microtech. it runs most things well... doesn't do cold start very well tho. cant comment on the new microtechs

How are you controlling yout ISCV though Draven, I thought you just had your throttle cracked open a little bit? In that case, I'm not surprised it doesn't work very well Grab yourself a 20v ISCV, and with a bit of patience and tuning, the Microleb will be fine

which would be great, except it only has 1 aux output, and that's controlling my thermos.

What temp does the 1J operate at? Be a simple job to fit a single wire thermo switch from a 4A (if the right temp range) and use that to control the thermos, thus freeing up your auxillary output

91 currently... plans to fit a cooler thermostat are in the pipeline.
what would this single wire thermo switch connect to?

Go get the cold start tuned properly.
Mine wasn't the best, but I never really wanted it tuned.
Its only cold for about 2mins every morning, fine thereafter.
If you are willing to leave it with a competant tuner for a week, the cold start will be perfect.
I'm not sure if you can use a 20V ISCV though.
I'm only using 2 of the 4 ignition drivers, so I think 2 of them have been used for ISCV control.
You are probably using all 6 injector and all 6 ignition drivers.
Blaming the cold start on the ecu is wrong.
Blame it on the tuner, or your wallet

it's not tuner's fault, there's just not enough left of the mtech to run my iscv

You don't need an ISCV
You can use an ABV instead (AirBypass Valve)
You can get fully mechanical ones that operate via coolant temp (cold = open to let more air in, hot = closed)
You can get stand alone electrical ones that have there own sensor, and just need +12v
Or you can use a Tridon Thermo Fan Switch to control the thermos (I have one on the Cressida), and use the Microtech output to control the ABV.

I can deal with the low idle for the first minute after starting up - just saying that if I were going to do it again, for this reason I wouldn't get a mtech

Haltech E6X is prob easiest thats what ive got.
It uses the standard 1J sensors except for the air temp and coolant temp which is simple enough. I believe it can use the standard TPS but I just used the haltech supplied one. It will run the standard ISCV. It has 4 PWM outputs to run thermos, boost control, etc. i suggest you look at the website.
I was told it would work with the standard ignition module but my ignition started to break down over 4500rpm full load so i swapped to the haltech ones.
Only prob I have also is my cold start is shite but that once again is the fault of poor tuning.

The Haltech can't run full sequential fuelling and ignition though. Had Draven not wanted these features, he'd have oodles of outputs. In that case he could've gone LT10S (had it been available then) and it would still have oodles of outputs

I have a wolf 3d V4. As you could probably tell if you read any of my other threads, I can’t get it do control timing as well as the auto. So if you have an auto I wouldn’t recommend it.
It has 2 aux outputs. One is controlling an ABV as the stock ecu is still controlling the stock ISCV and the other is for the shift light. AFAIK it can only control 4 wire ISCV’s and the 1j has a 6 wire one. So I would like to fit a 4 wire ISCV and get the wolf controlling that properly so that I can get rid of the ABV and use the aux output for something better like N2O
I like the software though. It is very easy to use and I have tuned the fuel myself using my techedge wideband o2 sensor which I would also recommend.
Will comment later when I have got it doing timing as my power levels are shit now but I suspect that is the fault of the stock ecu.
Also, it uses all the stock sensors except water temp. I think it used the stock air temp one.
They are $1100 or so I think and a bit more for a hand controller.

The wolf version 4 can only control a 3 wire ISCV (2 controls and 1 +12v).
The wolf version 4+ can control a 4 wire ISCV (4 controls no +12v)
The stock ISCV is 6 wire (4 controls and 2 +12v).
The wolf v4+ can control the stock one, but not the wolf v4

So can it control a 20v one like someone said before? I have also heard about a 5m one?

5M is 6 wire like the 1JZ (at least 5MGE is, I'm not sure what 5ME was, I think that was more an ABV than an ISCV)
But yes, you should be able to control a 20V ISCV.

I think you will find the most ideal is the E6X.

im using as microtech lt12s on my 1jz and its pretty much perfect. there is a slight overfuel if i put my foot down in the first few minutes, but shouldnt be stinging it cold anyway. will get it looked at when i go back for a retune with more boost, prolly can be sorted out no dramas
bonus of microtech is they r one of the cheapest ecus around, and do the job fine.

how does it go controlling your ISCV?
I know the new mtechs have more outputs (apparently)

Price, easier to tune with the new halwin software, it's ability to use the ISCV/O2 sensor/CAS etc, lots of outputs.
The LTX12 may do all this but not sure of price. It's been 2 years since i bought my E6X so maybe there is better producton the market to suit 1J now???

I personally like Rotomotion, they are on the conservative side with the BHP figures but none of their tunes that I know of have made an engine go bang! I prefer a healthy safety factor and they always accomodate this.
Cheers
