A350E/5 speed auto in 1JZ Cressida?

Hi guys, my gearbox is on the way out, still drivable in the forward gears but reverse is nearly buggered, just wondering if an A350E(?) (5 speed auto, possibly from an Aristo) would fit in? Would there be any physical or electrical difficulties?
Apparently they are physically the same size, but I can't confirm visually.
The car is running an engine from a JZX81 halfcut with an A340E currently.
Would this be a good box to stick in? Or should I just spend the money on a 2ndhand A340E and get a stallie and shift kit on it instead?
Thanks in advance

You can't control the A350E, and you'll find it has more solenoids.
You'd could probably do some cutting and soldering to get your plugs to suit, but it would still only be 4 gears.

Of course you can control the 350, just not with the same ECU as you're using now. You'd need to instead use an aftermarket trans ECU, make it manually shifted, or try to find the relevant parts from the donor car.

Let me clarify, by 'you', I meant, 'Ripfeast on the factory JZX81'

You can cut and solder wires all day, but you will have about a 1% chance of ever getting the car to shift right. When you talk automatic electronics you are entering a whole lot of shit you will have trouble comprehending.
I work for a company that specialises in automatics and any of the guys would tell you never to swap shit like that..
If you want a 5 speed get a manual.

you guys probably have not even seen one of these autos! im beting its probably only one extra solinoid for 5th gear, if this is the case it would be as easy as adding a switch for the extra gear!
if someone has one of these autos and can supply photos would be great! so we can get some constructive comments happening!
IMHO your normal joe blow automatic transmission places are on that list of never take your performance car to along with exhaust shops, LPG installers and auto elecs.
most dont care, dont know, dont have an IQ over 80 and are there to take your money and get rid of you ASAP, there are exceptions but anyone that has issues working out the 3 whole wires that control the standard toyota auto should be limited to working on xw falcons and ek holdens and nothing else.

of course theres a way to do it. theres always a way to do something.
the only thing that stops people is the effort or money involved.
i suggest you get wiring diagrams and sit down and work out a way to make it work.

Hmm,
OK, you have sparked my interest now.....
Do you happen to have the ratios of these 5 speed boxes ??
I may be (stupidly) tempted to change mine to a 5 speed if it was more suited to cruising and economy...

I dont think think its another gear train for the extra gear , i think they found by adding a clutch pack to lock sumthing up in the trans they managed to find the new gear .
correct me if im wrong .

Pretty sure you are right there.
Someone told me they combined 2nd and OD or something, made a new gear.
Not sure on the ratios though
The 99 Altezza has these ratios, not sure what box it is.
-3.431
3.357
2.180
1.424
1
0.753

They are the based on the A340E except for the new 2nd gear in the A350E. The are no new gearsets. The way the tranny is controlled, is what is very different.
A350E A340E
1st 2.804 2.804
2nd 1.978 1.531
3rd 1.531 1.000
4th 1.000 0.705
5th 0.705
The A350E is (basically) a A340E that enables the overdrive gearset in 1st for a new 2nd gear. 2.8 x 0.7 = 1.978. It splits the gears between the the normal 1st and 2nd. Makes the tranny become a very close ratio box. More closer than even a R154 5 speed. You certainly won't get any better top end economy as the overdrive ratio is the same but you will get better bottom end performance.
The valve body is also new and much more complex. Forget about adapting it. It uses 6 solenoids and has 4 speed sensors. And I thought the A341E was complex.

i have looked at the aftermarket ecus from the usa
they prob cost about 2000 aussie just to buy
they do control shift solenoids and line pressures but
if its true bout havin 3 pwm solenoids for shift quality then
it might not be able to do them all
but in the end who wants shift quality
another thing is if yr payin for tuning time on these ecus it
will prob take much much longer than tuning a cars engine
as they are a batard to tune and get right due to variable tps position

The control unit I looked was US$700 plus about $100 for a loom to suit the A350E. They already had a program to suit this tranny, plus supplied the software to further tweak it. Not only did the unit have shitloads of digital outputs it also had plenty of PWM(6 I think) outputs too. It used the TPS as an input for load sensing and had a couple of temp inputs as well.
Very configurable.
Also noticed the new Autronic SM4 has a shit load of new digital outputs and PWM outputs(seperate to the stepper motor control outputs). I'm thinking this ECU will be able to be used as a tranny controller too in the future when they develop a suitable program.
