hey all, i tried searchn but couldnt find any info. i know this has probably been asked before but i would like to know:
- does a silvertop 20valve head bolt on to a JDM RWD 96KW block?
i ask this because i am contemplating whether or not to put quad throttle bodies on to my engine. if i can't directly bolt the head on to the block then how much am i up for a bracket to bolt the quads onto my block?
any help would be great. thanx.

Hey,
I think bill sherwoods site has cut diagrams of each, and no the 20v head wont bolt onto the 16v block. Adapter plate is around $400-800 I think, plus around $250 for the quad throttle itself, then you have to get yourself an aftermarket ecu, as the 16v ecu wont know what the hell is going on hahah.

Adapter plate between the head and block? Golly! Does that mean I can put a GTR head on my 202?

i already have the 16valve engine that is rwd and i dont wana buy another engine. so does the silvertop 20valve head bolt definetly on without modification? someone mentioned to me that i may need to change pistons is that true? i have looked around for a quad throttle system with an adaptor plate and seen prices from like $1900 upwards . can you get cheaper than this?

Yeah sorry that's sorta what I meant, you'd have to change some internal parts of the 16v and by the time you do that it would have been easier to just get a 20v itself...

20v head will bolt onto 16v block & run with 16v pistons without interferance. would run better with 20v pistons of course...
several jap companies make the 16-to-20v adaptor manifolds, or you could just make your own

but they become an interference engine.. which will only be an issue if you break a cambelt
you should be able to get quads running on your for only a few hundred. fitting a 20v head will cost a bit as youll have to piss around with it more

for the $$$ + EFFORT of fucking around with stupid 20v gear, you would be faaar better off investing it into a smallport 16V.
You can buy smallports for nicks off these forums and elsewhere, and will probably be just as fast as a rwd 20V (or just a little slower), and would certainly be faster than the bigport 16v with the quads.

port and polish you rekon huh, roughly how much will that set me back? i will eventually do some machine work, other than the port and polish what other machine work should i get done.
my mate rekons that i should blue print the engine but i rekon that will cost heaps of $$$. does anyone know how much?
also this is a lil bit off topic but i am trying to find someone that has a jdm 16 valve compliance plate so i can use the vin to order parts. if you have please either post it up or pm. thanx

Here is one example of a plate off a actual AE86 I had a photo of. Its a JDM vehicle, a GT-Apex I think, probably black, a 2 door, manual, but no LSD. Use this to order your JDM parts at a dealership, as I have done.
Model: E-AE86-ESMVF
Engine: 4A-GEU
Frame No.: AE86-5038808
Color: 2N2 FP32
Trans: T50 T282
Plant: M21
This is the important part needed:
AE86-ESMVF
AE86-5038808
There is no VIN number as such.

okedoke.....with this thread is semi fresh.
I have a bigport 4AGE, does the small port head bolt up to this block? or again, do internals require changing.
as a result of head change, does exhaust manifold require mods to fit?
Another thought. The bigport is low compression? yes/no? hence, would running a supercharger with low boost do damage since internals aren't stock for the SC. computer rqr change? feasible or not? the bigport goes well, especially when the high rpm comes on, but i wouldn't mind so power down lower. The extractors i think also hinder the low rpm power....so sc, or smaller head are my two thoughts. Which would be better for the dollars, or are there other ideas that I may have over looked. Cheers,
Crok.

smallport bolts on no changes.
s/c can run on tvis pistons with no problems
use ALL the s/c gear inc ecu. i run this set up in my aw11.
only issue is theres no place for a knock sensor so itll show the check lamp and pull timming back to base setting.
mine is still faster than a stock 4agze aw11, next dyno trip im going to play with the timming a little
