yes, it's possible, but from all accounts it sucks. Do a quick search. This was discussed about a month ago. Basically, it'll be quicker, easier and safer to do it with the head off.

Theres a valve that you can fit in place of the spark plug that allows you to keep pressure on the valves with an air line, they aren't too expensive but I don't know how good they are.

Yeah on my compression tester i took the adaptor off it (spark plug thread on one end) and adapted it to an air compressor.

This trick does work, but there are times when you have a hard time building enough pressure to hold the valve up with enuf force to press the springs down. You have to add oil down the plug whole sometimes and rotate the valves around to get that sealing happening again. Very frustrating i tell you. But not impossible.

This looks like a decent write up to me.

Cheers

A wise man once said to me.
"When you open a 25 year old engine and finish with any less then a complete rebuild then your doing well. I when to do a set of valve seals on my old 18 r and ended up after chucking in about 500 bucks worth of parts. I was pissed, people cant give these engines away but I needed the car for a daily driver.
