Need help with turbo timer.....

OK i got a timer. Has 4 wires, on the bench test, one is ground (BLACK),one is const 12V (RED), one will start the timer and stay high when power (YELLOW) is lost and the other (BLUE) goes high when the timer activates.
I tried to wire it up, which I always thought is just a matter of wiring it to my key switch. i wired it up with the yellow wire on an ig pin and the blue wire on my accessories. The timer started and when the car turned off the stereo stayed on and my charge light stayed on.
So i thought maybe i wired it wrong, So i wired it to the other IG pin. same thing but this time every warning light came on but the charge light. so i thought maybe both IG pins need to be wired but that just make ALL my warning lights come on. it seems i can get all the dash to work but nothing else....
I even turned on the car with the timer running incase it doesn't work fast enough but it still died.
Any thoughts??? what have i done wrong?

well .. err.. half of it
-find IGN wire leaving key-switch
-cut it so you have a switched wire (e.g. from key to nowhere) and an ign power feed to all that electronics shit in the dash and engine bay
-blue wire joins the wire leaving the key switch
-yellow wire joins the wire heading off into the dash jungle
-the other two you already have worked out
so... when you take the key out, the yellow wire stays on for XX seconds.

both IGN come from the one terminal on the back of the Ign switch.
the charge light circuit feeds 12V to the light which is then grounded by the alt (when not charging) or not grounded (when the alt is charging)
my timer cuts into the loom underneath the steering wheel.

nah they are definitely two separate switching circuits. i wired the yellow to one and the blue to the other.
It seems that timer may be a bit old and/or dodgy as if i rev it to about 1500 when i turn the car off it works fine. So i guess i will do that.
