Hello all,
Does anyone know if a MA-61 can have its original engine changed from a 5-ME to a 5M-GE or 6M-GE?
If so what modifications are required to do so?
Thanks...

Mate,
5M-E to 5M-GE Is a reasonable straight forward exercise.
There are a couple of things to be mindful of. The M series engine have both Mid and front sumps depending on what vehicle they were fitted to. The sumps are oil pumps interchange easy enought But if you can avoid the effort its a good thing
The 5M-GE has 2 different computers. There is an analogue and a digital version. Analogue version is supposed to provide 145Hp, Digital 160Hp.
The analogue will "apparently" run off the 5M-E computer the digital version will not (well not easily it might tho if you rewired it) When you get the engine try and make sure you get the AFM, the Coil and ignitor and the Computer. This will make life much easier
Tina's swap took an estimated 24hours !
Hope that helps,

My MA61 has had a 6M-GE for the last 2.5 years. It was quite an easy conversion and for the first couple of years it was running happily off the 5M-E computer. AFAIK all 6M's have the wrong sump, but it's not hard to swap the 5M sump over with a bit of fiddling.

I pulled my 5M-GE out of an import mk2.
I kept all my original AFM, ignitor, computer, etc etc. Just connect up all the sensors and youre away.
My swap took a bit longer because I decided not to connect all the water temp sensors and as a result it decided to just flood the thing with petrol. Oh yes, also took longer coz i went turbo. Well worth it tho
