Reverse lights MA70 GT

I'm trying to hook up my reverse lights (havn't worked since getting the car).
There are two wires hanging from the gearbox, and could poke through the stick hole, but I don't know what wires to connect it to.
I suppose I could take the plastic bits off the inside of the boot and see the colours of hte wires for the reverse lights, then try and find them in the front of the car, but does anyone know where these wires go?
As its a GT it came out auto only, and now its got a manual box in it (I didn't put it in).

The reverse lights usually go into the engine bay. That's how it works on my MA61 anyway.

try putting your meter across the two wires and put it in reverse and check for resistance, then put it out of reverse, if it goes to open circuit you could wire your light up to that or put a relay off it.

Gotta get myself a meter I think.
The wires from the gearbox isn't really my problem as I could always just put a hand switch on the lines from the back of the car, but I don't know where the wires are.

I've done an auto to manual conversion before.
Generally on autos, the reverse light switch is on the gearstick itself, but on manuals, the switch is on the gearbox.
Check the two wires you've got on the gearbox for a circuit when the car is in reverse, then you'll have to find the wires that go to the back of the car near the gearstick, probably hidden under the carpet or centre console.
If it still has the original loom, there will be a spare plug under there somewhere that went to the auto shifter.
You'll need one wire from power to the gearbox switch, then from the other side of the switch to the lights at the back of the car.

Yeah thats what I thought.
I found a plug in there but it had 3 wires, and I couldn't make them work the reverse lights
Now that I think of it, I didn't try connecting one of those wires to the other. I kept trying one wire to earth, one wire to positive.
There was another single wire in there, but I couldn't make that do anything.
I'll pull the plastic off and see what colour the wires are and try and match them up at the gearstick.

Generally there can be quite a few wires running to an auto shifter.
It will probably be lit up with the dash lights (2 wires),
Reverse lights (2 wires), Inhibitor switch to stop the car from starting in any gear except for Park & Neutral (2 wires, but may be on gearbox instead), if there's a dash display of the gear then there's one wire for each position of the gearstick.
The reverse lights should work if you had just hooked up of the wires to power (just need to find which one), then just simply hook that wires one side of that gearbox switch (if its the reverse switch) and supply power to the other side of the switch when ignition is in on position (more than likely it's one of the other wires in that plug)

Didn't see ANY plugs down there 'cept the 3 wire one. I might have more of a look later. Or get someone to have a look on the dyno day. You guys going??

I agree with wagonist, if it's had an auto to manual conversion, there will be a connector around the shifter hole,
Here's how I would find the wire for reverse with out a meter:
you need to find one slot of this connector with 12 volts coming out (when the ignition is on),you can do this with a globe and two bits of wire joined to it, or buy a electrical tester, about $2-$5 bucks.
take this down (with wire!) to the manual box switch, plug to either side, bring the other one back up. Put the car in reverse (ignition on but engine off so you don't stack it!) now push the bared wire into each of the leftover plug holes one by one and go round and look at your lights to see if they are on. You should have reverse lights now......

Also if you have been putting wires to earth you may have blown a fuse, so check that before you start!
