do mz20 and gz20 have the same body shell/chassis - the reason i ask it that im going to japan soon and might get a roll cage, however they only list them for gz's which ar far more popular over there it seems

yes, the GZ is the lighter of the cars and thus why would would use it to build up a race car.

am just curious if the same weight differences are present in a MZ10 versus GZ1x comparison?
cheers, charles.

Well the main weight difference between the GZ and MZ is in the motor (7m being heavier) and all the extra electronics like airbag suspension, TV etc.
After removing my interior im willing to say there is negligable difference between the weight of the leather and the cloth interiors. The leather back seat would weigh no more than 5kg!
Most of the weight is in the chassis in these cars it seems.
In reference to the z10, it would be a similar case of 1g vs 6m.
You don't have all the extra weight of the turbo gear to worry about, but if you're looking to change the motor id say there would be bugger all differance between them once the motor is removed in that evolution of the car.
But that is purely a guess.

thanks for that
we (self & wilbo) have MZ10 (interior now gutted) and have a choice of 7mge or 1ggte for powerplants. gearbox is currently wilbo's spare W58.
So it will be trade off of extra-torque (7M) versus lighter powerplant with less torque (1G).
Track work would probably favour the 1G, whereas 7M (or a downgrade to 6mge with 7m crank) probably better for rally/autocross?
ta,
charles.

MZ's are not much more than a Supra with a engine bay that's easier to lean into (while holding a heavy engine head) and no heavy hatch

ive sat in an r32 gtr.
needless to say i shat myself and never want those kinds of speeds/power levels.
im settling for 250rwhp in a cressy.
1JZ though...
i wouldve thought the only difference between MZ and GZ was mechanicals, technically speaking, the chassis and body should be identical.
