hey ppl, was driving the other day (not hard) when my car blew a huge puff of black smoke, started misfiring hard and got a horrid metal on metal sort of banging noise, like a valve hitting piston. i stopped instantly and had it towed home. the noise is top end and only intermittent, but the missing is continuous. any help please..
engine is 7m-gte.. recently (night before) had to adjust timing belt coz it slipped a tooth. after this car ran great for a day then next night this happened
was told it could be that the belt slipped again and its valve on piston, but i thought 7m's are non-interfearence motors??
is this true?? can it be a valve?? what else could it be??
cheers people, quick response would be appreciated as i need to fix it asap..
cheers
Stomps

i think your problems are bigger than you hope
you readjusted your timing belt after it jumped a tooth?
if i was you i would have put on a new belt and tensioner after
that had occured,
id take the head of to check the damage done, but hope fully
not to much
ill pray for ya

yeah, probably should have done that, but the belt was new and the only reason it slipped coz we didn't really put it on properly, still i should have taken more care,
what do you think the noise could be??

They're are non interference so it couldnt be valve on piston.
Maybe a bearing? Knocking sounds from an engine are never good and almost always require stripping down to sort the problem.
Good luck!

valve spring/retainer failure? valve sticking?
at least pull rocker cover off and investigate that far first.. then report back
but now sounds like a good time to strip motor bare and check for farkededness..

BHG?
- sorry i just wanted to be involved....
you are either 1 of 2 types of people, those who get engine noises and are always just something silly and cheap to fix.. or the kind of person that gets engine noises like me.
