Well, I will be working 7am-5pm Monday to friday or 4 days on, 4 days off 12 hour shifts so I wont have much spare time.
I was mainly wondering if there was many places of interest aroung Cobar, like national parks etc.

like most towns of that size, best thing it has to offer is a bar to forget where you are
there's probably roo shooting, barn dances, and pig rooting

If you don't drink now you will when you get back. You'll also be able to shoot, own a ute and know everyone in town.

There is a place in QLD that sounds similar that has an autofest .. with racing and similar activities. Oh wait, that is Kalbar.
Bummer.

Passed through on the way from Port Augusta to Noosa.
I remember it having a service station with a funny name "Bogas". Probably not funny now but it was after a couple of days driving straight from Esperance in a Hiace which could only do 80km/h on the flat.

My cousins live in cobar!
one of them teaches at the school and the others work/worked in the mine, and one of them used to own the milk bar.
I went there for christmas one year, just sat around drinking, talking and then went shooting.
Don't know if there was much else to do!
There was a river somewhere around there were we went skiing, so I spose you could go fishing?
Just ask around for the Ellisons and go and get drunk with my cousin Tony, hes a big bloke and dam he has some shit funny stories!
Keep us updated on how it goes down there, cause I was planning to go down there in the not too distant future and work in the mines too.
What is they pay like there these days?
Have fun!Just buy a cheap 4x4 or a moto and that should take car of a bit of spare time!

I'm only there as an engineering student on work experience, but im getting $25 per hour on a casual basis, so its not too bad, however the normal working hours add up to a 45 hour week. I'd expect you would get more though.
Thanks for the info, I'll probably meet most of the people in the town during my stay.
