gz-10 1g-ge to 1g-gte questions Tue, 18 October 2005 09:38 Go to next message
Hi folks hope im not re hashing too many recent postings.
i have a non turbo z10 and have been offered a water to air intercooled 1ggte for $250 (1st gen?)
other than the fuel pump etc,as far as ecu and looms go can i simply swap in turbo ecu and injectors ,motor into my standard loom or do i have to re-loom the car?.
im tempted to try the old cheap arse safc2 and rising rate regulator on the na version and turbo it with a rb25det snail ive got,and see how long it lasts with minimal boost and timing?
anyone done this swap? anyone got the bits to do it? Confused

by the way im upgrading the fuel pump and its got a stronger clutch and box allready and front mount ready so its up to wether or not the early 1ggte is worth putting in or not?
thanks for looking

see that little link in my sig, click that and then ask questions.

I am running a W55 with a Gen2, i had to upgrade my clutch because the old one melted. i kept the same fuel pump.

um also i wouldn't recommend strapping a turbo to the side of the NA, as they run different compression and stuff, the GTE drops in, with nothing custom to make, all in all its not very hard.

cheers ndqcpr
thanks for the link info, very helpfull.
im just being lazy and trying to get by without changing looms,it looks like the gen2 gte loom is different from na z10 how about the gen1 gte would the ecu plug in?
as for na turboing ive had good results before as long as i dont push too much boost or timing into na motors and use pulp and water injection. im interested to see how strong the ring lands and head gasket are on na 1g,s Laughing

yeah i just think it would be alot of dicking around, i looked at doing that. It would work if i don't go over stock and this and that, it seems alot of hassle.

The plugs would have matched on the ECU's the pins were slightly different though. also the GEU had no limiter (not that i was willing to find, i took it till all the dash lights lit on the tacho) and no boost cut (as you would expect). if you have a motor with the loom then its easy, everything fits, the grommet even fits the hole in the fire wall, it wasn't hard to wire, i have all the tech info here in a book.

i personally would get the motor designed to be boosted, but i am paranoid about everything. i bought a wreck and everything was there for me so there weren't any real dramas. if the motor has the loom still on it you don't even remove it leave it there, as it isn't going to be fun wiring up the motor to the loom.

i think i will hunt around for the gen 1 loom and ecu to match the motor and try the na boost up while im looking.i can get 7mge injectors so ill see if the safc can adjust the map to take these on the stock ecu and use the rising rate reg to boost enrich the fuel supply to suit.im not too worried about popping the na motor as i work at an engine rebuilders and can get bits pretty cheap, plus the compression looks to be only 9.2:1 and thats not too high for a modest boost level. could be interesting.

i agree about the fuel pump upgrade that is the first thing i will change.7mge injectors are the same resistance as 1g arent they? its just ive been offered a whole 7mge for near nothing so id pillage the injectors and use them if they bolt in,or would they need a resistor to change ohms?
