R34 GTR turbos on 1GGTE Thu, 09 January 2003 11:20 Go to next message

Hey guys

Anyone know if R34 GTR turbos are twin ball bearing or not, and do they contain ceramic internals or steel. I'm thinking of them going onto a 1G what do you think as a volumtric match.
If they are bb then are they in the garrett GT range ie GT30 or GT35?

Thanks

I have found out that they are not steel wheels. Still trying to see if they are full ball bearing or not though. I've looked all over the net but cant find out.

Help appreciated

Cheers

Considering the way GTR's don't make useful boost till above 4000rpm (so I'm told), they may be a little laggy on an engine without that extra 600cc.

Actually, from memory the R34's were supposed to be better in terms of boost repsonse so they may be better.

Yeh I heard that they were a bit better, I guessed because of being ball bearing turbos. But today I was told by a good turbo shop that the r34 gtr turbos are not bb at all. I give up.

I think you'll find that they are ball bearing cored, It seems silly to think that Nissan whould go backward in turbo technology for its greatest GTR skyline ever.

That said, me reckons a pair of GTR turbos would make a pretty good match for a potent 1G. Laggy? i dont know, this will be dicated by you're plumbing. But your boost threshhold will be med/high me thinks. (maybe 3500-4000 odd rpm) but once you hit that. BAM!!!, the old fork in the eye.
