hey guys.
i own an ae82 twincam with an 86kw bluetop(228,000kms)
i was just wanting some advice on what would be more practical.
mod the 86kw(already has 2'cat back exhaust) if so what mods give the best bang for buck gains?
or
do a 100kw conversion and leave it relativly stock.
any experience or advice would be appreciated.
i have searched!
mods must be p-plate friendly
thanks in advance

mod it, if you put a smallport in, you would not be able to tell the difference in power.
but you would go faster, because your wallet would be a hell of a lot lighter.

mod the 86kw mate, there is very little difference between the two engines. they compensate for eachother, even in a race they would be even.
Mod the 86kw - filter, extractors, exhaust, cams, timing etc.
See how you go with that

differences are just compression, bearing/bushing size, rod size, port size....
compression.. meh, more is better but for the cost you may as well to 10:1 or so.
bearing/pin/rod size? neither here nor there, all are strong.
port size? 45mm vs 40mm ports (circular equiv)... small port better down low, but bigport counters with TVIS which actually works.
cams... and then high comp pistons, and then ... profit

really depends what your after - power or drivability
272 for bit of power increase whilst still maintaining driveability
288 is the more obvious choice for more power, but more lumpy and you lose a bit of economy and drivability.
Go for 4-2-1 extractors, 2" mandrel exhaust and a good filter, with cold air induction. That should see better more responsive engine.
Once they are done go cams, get an accurate tune with the fuel mixtures etc and you should be sweet.
THe power gains are really arguable. Personally the gain isnt that great out right. but as i said, the power curve is much better and much more responsive.
cams id think would get your greatest gain, however are nothing without the other mods
just my 2cents.
GO THE GE!
