Odyssey Battery? Thu, 09 January 2003 23:33 Go to next message
What are Odysssey Batteries like?
Do they work as well as the normal sized ones?
I want to get one for thier size but need to know how well they work.

Considering the price tag, and the fact that one half the size of mine was rated at 1000CCA (mines 380) they must have something going for them.

What are the Odyssey batteries worth ?

I had to buy a brand new battery on Monday cos the old one died on me. Got myself an Exide Evolution. Fit nicely into the Soarer with mild modification (needed to make a custom mount as the Soarers usually take N70 sized batteries (ie. huge)).

oddessy's are rated at 1000cca?!?
and there I was worried they might not have the same zap as a big 'un
any ideas on an approximate price range for a typical odyssey (not one or the 1000+cca ones, one of the snall performance ones)

Just check the amp hours rating. you will find that sealed gel cells while having hagi cca rating generally don't have the output duration of a lead acid. I went through the same questions when I just replaced my batt when it went into the boot and wanted it sealed. they are ok if only being used in high discharge/short burst use (ie only startup's) but wont run your stereo for long. I went with a century DIN53R, it's what goes into the boot in BMW's & Merc's, sealed lead acid, but vented case, complete with tubing. 550CCA, high amp hrs. Dont bother looking at their web site, I just did, about as useful as a diet crouton. High CCA isn't everything, esp if you want to leave llights on or run a stereo w/out the engine running.

I run an ES12V800 odessey, in the boot of my car.

It is not 800 CCA like you would think the name suggests. It is 380 (??) i think. the 800 refers to it's max pulse current.

Who cares, it weighs 12Kg and takes up bugger all space compared to the battery box i had in my boot. It was $220 from memory.
