3SGTE GT4 engine noise @ 4000rpm

Ever since I got my GT4 back from having the gearbox reco'd & clutch replaced, the engine gets really noisy when it hits 4000rpm. I never noticed it before - just wondering if all you 3SGTE owners notice the same, or if something's amiss. Happens in any gear or neutral. clutch in or out.
It's an ST185 with TVIS, which I know kicks in at about those revs, so I'm guessing it's probably something to do with that.

my mr2 (I think its still got the tvis butterflies in it?) seems to get a bit noisier and vibrate a bit more just over 4000rpm, which I just put down to the tvis butterflies opening.

That's a relief. Maybe the butterfly mechanism has just worn with age & vibrates a bit as it opens. It tends to smooth out after 5000rpm.

if its only started happening after major surgery, then its usually things like exhaust heat shields rattling or even the exhaust on the top of the crossmember or similar.

That's what I thought initially. It sounded like a loose baffle in the first resonator causing the noise, so I didn't bother trying to fix it cos I was going to replace the exhaust soon anyway. But I've since replaced the entire exhaust system, which although has reduced the noise (probably because there's no resonator to echo the noise), it's still there.

Id put my money on any of the exhaust heat sheilds bolted to the manifolds etc, either that or maybe your IC...
I dont know about the WTA, but the standard ATA has some bracketry (??spelling, existence ) that is riveted on, and over time if that has come loose or damaged by mechanics will have a sympathetic vibration at certain RPM's
either that or your bottom end is shot, in which case you might as well give me your CS motor, (with goodies) ill take your problem off your hands j/k
