mk2 Supra Question

hi,
i'm thinking of buying an old mk2 supra (MA60) and i got a few questions...
these only came with the 5M-E engine in australia right? and what is the availability of other engines such as the 5M-GE or 6M-GE like? do these engines have the same head gasket problem that i've heard about with the 7M engines?
what sort of price should i be paying for an MA60, as i've seen some advertised for as much as $9000, which is almost as much as a mk3 supra, and this doesnt seem right to me.
thanks for your help.
Cory.

If you've got a really nice condition one that hasn't been thrashed or cut to pieces and inserted with some doof doof system you can expect to pay 9k no worries.
I paid 8 for mine but that was in 1998.

Yeah, Australia only got the 5ME versions. I don't really know about the availability of the 5M-GE and 6M-GE. You should be able to find them but bear in mind they are getting old.
The head gasket problem as far as I'm aware is not as prolific as that of the 7M engines, although I have seen a few people with blown head gaskets.
As SUPRAGTE said before as well, its the sort of car that can vary greatly in price, based on the fact you buy them on condition as it varies so much.
Hope this helps, and if you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask...

People are still asking stupid prices like $8-9k for a Mk2, but it doesn't mean they're worth that much! Like you say, you can get a much newer Mk3 for that sort of money these days. You can pick up a perfectly good Mk2 for $5k if you look around.

We paid 9k for our mk2 2 years ago - but its worth the money for the condition of the body alone .. Its had little use over the last year though - but still looks good - and always catches the eye of people as you drive about
You pay for what you get - but a lucky find can always be had if you know what your looking for ..
5k is the normal price for a good one - but expect more for an excellent condition Mk2
Just as a note - a mark 2 was worth 24 thousand dollars back in 1984
you could buy about 3 XE falcons for the same price
In todays dollars - thats about a 65 thousand dollar car ..

the head gaskets are a big prob on the 5ME engine. it'd be worth your while getting a CO2 test done on it to make sure its not already on the way out
