Hi there,
Just got a ta22, I am going to be pulling my Jet Ski around with it so I was wondering if I would need to upgrade the brakes and suspension at all? Any thoughts??
thanks

Just get new shocks. Inspect or replace the brake pads regularly.
Slightly stiffer springs may be good also, as long as you also get good shocks.

if you are towing load, it may be a good idea to get something do in the braking department and get some sloted rotors and all new pads all round, just to give you that little extra bite, for those extra kilo's your carrying.

Don't know about the Commodore struts, but the XT-130 Corona struts bolt straight in, and then gives you the option of better inserts than the TA-22. (I put RAV 4 Koni inserts in mine) The Corona disk is an inch bigger and still runs the same stud pattern as the TA-22. Only problem is that not all 13" wheels will fit around the caliper. (good excuse to go to bigger wheels)This setup worked well in the rally car.

is the chronos disk also ventilated as well? can you use the same TA22 spring/strut in the XT130 strut or do you have to go out and get a new spring/strut?

The disk isn't ventilated, the strut tower will accomodate the spring (though mine was lowered), I am pretty sure however that the insert wont fit. I had my TA-22 towers modified to fit the bigger insert, so when I did the mod I already had the right inserts. It is however a cheap conversion, I picked up the full strut assembly (tower, insert, disk, caliper etc) from the wreckers for $90. The disks and pads where in good cond, and I could have just bolted the whole lot straight in, but my inserts and springs where better than the Corona ones.

Redneck Rallysport, did you use the strut top off the XT130 or your origional TA22 strut top? cos i tried to fit the xt130 top in a TA22 tower and it didn't fit.

To be honest, I can't fully recall, I very well may have used the TA-22 ones, I did the mod about 18 mths ago, and have since sold the car. It is now racing at Hidden Valley in Darwin.

Thanks for the info guys. i am lloking for something that is not going to cost too much money, and at the same time not cause me too much pain in modifying parts to fit. I haven't got the car yet so I will get back to you when I know a bit more on what I need.
thanks

Hi,
I am now the proud owner of the TA22 in question and unfortunately it's still a long way from the racetrack due to pain in the butt 3SGTE conversion. (sorry redneck!!)
I just had a look at the strut towers and can see no evidence of modification so your struts should just bolt straight in.
I am going the hilux caliper/peugot rotor although I have heard that VN commodore discs/hubs (one part) will go straight on although this will change your stud pattern.
I have used the hilux calipers on previous racecar and they worked great with no overheating/fade and very minimal pad wear so they would be great on a road car !!
cheers.
