1UZFE - Celsior service Sun, 23 October 2005 15:03 Go to next message
I know I have asked this before but I searched and searched and could not find it, so here goes.

For the 1UZFE in the Celsior-

1. what spark plugs are recommended? (I know I can google it or look in the book under LS400, but I want first hand opinions)

2. What oil should I go for

3. Oil filter? any particular brand?

4. Ignition Leads, will a set send me bankrupt?

5. Toyota red coolant? yes Smile

6. Air filter any particualr one?

And feel free to let me know if there is anything I need to look out for. I have only just got the car on the road and up until now I have been broke, due to a new arrival in the family Smile

there is soooooooo much info on the 1UZ-FE its just not funny!!

These are your search targets in future:
# Toymods
# Lextreme
# Planet Soarer
# ALSC
# Google

Your answers....

1/ Take one out and write down the number. They are platinum tipped

2/ I use Gulf Western Protecta 15W/50 Semi-Synthetic, because it's good and our friendly Gulf Western oil distributor (aka "toobs" on these forums) sells a 20L drum cheaper than Kmart's poo-oil

3/ Toyota. Nothing else

4/ Unless yours are broken why change?

5/ YES! I still need to flush mine of the poo-poo green Sad
DO NOT MIX RED AND GREEN!!!!

6/ If you can find a non-toyota factory replacement... then cool. Otherwise stick to the factory or a K&N filter.

www.soarercentral.com would be more up your alley, the 1uzfe engine is more or less the same in the soarer as the celsior so almost all information would be relevant for a 1uzfe service.
They do have a celsior related thread on there as well if i recall.

Curiously witzl how does the gulf western oil compare to say Mobil or my favourite Penrite. do you know of a web site where they compare oils, i am intreagued by the fuchs as well.

Personally, this is what I use.

Plugs - NGK Iridiums ~ $20 each
Leads - I've used TopGun, performance was fine, I went remove them after a year and they came apart. I got a free replacement set on there now. Am going to try Bosch leads on my other motor. Both ~ $200 a set (genuines are $400)
Rotors/Dizzys - Bosch - $140 for the two pairs.
Thermostat + Seal - Toyota genuine - $30 max
Oil - Penrite HPR-15 - $30
Oil Filter - AC Delco - $10
Air Filter - I don't use factory one, but Wesfil and Ryco should do one if you don't want genuine
Coolant - Toyota Red + Distilled - 50/50 - $50

And if you feel like it
Timing Belt - genuine - $70
Timing Belt bearings - bearing shop ~$230
Waterpump - Genuine - $160
Acc Belt - $40
Acc Belt bearings - $15

Cost to do all of the above - $1250ish

Barned,

The Gulf Western Protecta Ultra is the type I'm using. It's pretty much always under $100 for a 20L drum of this nice 15W/50 semi-synthetic oil, but PM Toobs for current price (dont bother if you arent sydney area)...

As for comparsions of GW to the other brands.... check the gulf western website?
I've been using this oil since my crown landed, and in my 4agte AE71 (when i had it), and in every car i've changed oils on in the past 12 months. I like it!!

i use NGK iridiums too Smile

Full synthetic oils are a different story....

... but are still MUCH cheaper when bought from teh Toobs.
eg. <$200 per 20L (<$50 /5L)

Therefore my statement stands Razz
