What are my options for a Turbo upgrade on a gt4 group A? Mon, 24 October 2005 07:28 Go to next message
Hey all, Ive just got myself a 1991 GT4 Group A Rallye, and the ct26 had just blown on me.

Ive heard alot about ct20b's but i can NOT find them anywere. What else could i be looking at to upgrade 2? If i have to rebuild my old turbo i might aswell pay the extra to get one even better to rebuild Wink

Cheers, Mick.

Nothing will bolt on. So its fully custom from here out.

Options are limitless. But get an idea what kind of power/response you want from your car, and work from there.

Mate to be honest, the old feeling with 7psi was all i was looking for Razz

Im mostly after low.mid range push in the back feeling.

Some shops suggested a highflowed t3 of a vl turbo.

If that's all you want then best opton is to stick with either the stock CT26 and run more boost....they will handle 15psi no probs all all and so will your ECU. Should give you a big enough buzz.

If you want some headroom for more in the future then get the stock turbo rebuilt with 50 trim garrett comp wheel. If you et the exhaust manifold, turbine housing and dump pipe ceramic coated and have a decent full 2.5-3 inch exhaust, boost response will remain as good as stock or actually a shade better but with a much more solid mid range and top end punch.

The safe limit of the fuel pump and injectors is around 280hp although theoretically you should be able to push them to 320hp right on the limit.

Bill Keen at ATS in Adelaide is the CT26 guru and the man i would talk to about doing the work.

Justen is correct. If your after good low to mid range response then the standard CT26 is the way to go. Toyota spent a lot of money researching the turbo setup your car has by design, and unless your looking at some serious mods or you want higher levels of boost to redline i.e. over 1 bar then rebuild the standard one and get a decent freeflowing turbo back exhaust.

In addition some ppl will recommend getting rid of the ceramic turbine when rebuilding, but I have stuck with mine ( I run 8 - 14 psi boost) and am quite happy with it as ceramic wheels are lighter so spoolup is further improved over a steel turbine.
