| Quote: | Fitted to the European-market Golf GT, the 1.4-liter four-cylinder uses supercharging and turbocharging to boost output, picking up on an idea introduced by Nissan on its Japan-market March. The supercharger boosts low-end response and flattens the torque curve, while the turbocharger strengthens the top end.

The Twincharger delivers 170 hp at 6000 rpm and 177 lb-ft of torque from 1750 to 4500 rpm 20 hp and 29 lb-ft more than VWs 2.0-liter FSI four-cylinder.

The result is serious pull off the line, with a sturdy 147 lb-ft of torque available from just 1250 rpm. The induction system makes the four-valve-per-cylinder unit extraordinarily responsive, extremely flexible and wonderfully linear well beyond the 2400-rpm peak where the supercharger begins to disengage

	Way cool.
Now all we need to do is wait for toyota or nissan to chuck that setup on their V8's, and we're all set.

Way cool, but I thought the twin charger production car was done before on the Lancia Delta S4 (1985)?

Yup, and much earlier than that on aero engines.

The 1990 Nissan March Super Turbo was factory twin-charged

I double checked, and you're quite right - although the old 037 had 5000 produced, the S4 was produced when they redid the Evolution rules, so they only had to produce 200 for sale.

<threadjack> Of course, in googling I found there are some real gems around.</threadjack>

WAIT WAIT WAIT!

This has got to be wrong:
A compression ratio of 7:1 with maximum power of over 400 HP at 8000 rpm and maximum torque values reaching 40 kgm at 5000 rpm, produced a top speed of 208 kmph, with acceleration from 0-100 kmph in 7.8 seconds!

No way. My car does 0-100 in 7.3 seconds and it has nowhere NEAR this CRAZY amount of power or torque.

Acceleration doesnt have as much to do with power as you might think.

Gear ratios and traction are the things that effect it most, especially with a powerful car.

meh, a certain level of power costs a certain amount of fuel, give or take a bit for efficiency... but roughly the same...
thats why your right foot is like a fuel consumption pedal
