anyone know if the timing gear on an 18r-c can be accessed without removing the head? My problem is that one of the chain guides is loose (buggered if I know where the bolts have gone) with the rocker cover off you can actually get soem pliers onto it and move it about, thus the timing is pritty stuffed and it's very rately. I was thinking might be able to just drop the sump, any sergestions???

You can get the timing cover off without dismantling the rest of the motor, however you can't get it back on properly, I should know, I've fucked a few. Just take the head off, it's not hard, and then fix your timing and put the head back on. The head bolt tension on the 18r head isn't crucial, considering the rings and so forth are probably screwed anyway. If you fuck the head I have two spare here anyway

I had a feeling that would be what I'd have to do, it's more of a matter of finding the time to do it and I'm thinking a new head gasket wont be too cheap either,
Thanks
