1UZ-FE into a MX83 Cressida Sat, 11 January 2003 11:38 Go to next message
Hi, I'm a newbie here (don't spit on me) I was wondering if anyone has done a 1UZ-FE into a MX83 conversion? I'd like to have the Soarer 4speed auto if I could. Any help? Smile

I hear you asking why not a 1JZ-GTE? well I already have a turbo charged car and found that turbo repairs are kind of costly, and I'd rather not be lumbered with the heat issues. Besides my brother has a 4.0GT soarer and I love that, but its a bit impractical in terms of body style and not quite the "sleeper" look I'd like.

I'd like this to be my cruising car as I have a little Turbo charade for my commuting, city driving, errands etc and it can't be beat for those things, however on long trips and highway driving its a little flakey. I wouldn't have minded a crown ms123 but I've heard parts are kind of hard to get (any comments?)

Grand I found it Smile it looks very good, a lot of empty space at the front of the engine without that hydraulic fan. No heat hassles there. I just hope "V8cressida" will give me the low down as to what he had to do. I always liked the idea of a v8 cressida, its not as big as the Soarer which has too much of a nose for my liking. Plus I can carry around a few more people easily. No turbo/boost hassles and a conservative understated look without the weight of a LS400 (though I like those too)

Biased99 has done it too - he's around a bit more often than Darren.

The MS 112 and 123 bits aren't that hard to get there are a few around. Plus there a great looking car. To get the bits you just have to know a few ppl and that's what classic crown is for.

Unfortunatley it looks to be a real sh#t fight to get the 8 in if not impossible. I was toying with the idea of putting the 1uzfe in my ms53 which has the same front end as the 112's and 123 and you have clearance issuse's with the steering box and the upper arm on the exhaust manifolds. Don't know if it is the same with the cresida. However I know a bloke who is having ago so I'll let you know how that goes

Not to mention bloody expensive!

If your going to do the conversion stick with the standard computer and standard gearbox (auto) that will save you about 3-4 grand.

Tis a pity as the Crown's a nice car, and would benefit well from a nice V8 conversion. I suppose the 1JZ-GTE is a better fit?

The V8 is a great engine, and could be good in that car (havn't done the conversion, so don't know).

I'm just saying keep it standard. Auto and standard computer.

Actually it will be more expensive to use the standard computer.
You have to buy a half cut to get the engine running properly (there is no other way despite other peoples claims!), the engine packages don't have all the required components. Your looking at $3500 for this Vs $1500 for an engine and trans. Buy an Autronic and wire it up. The cost of wiring up the Toyota ECU would be huge, that's even if you can find someone who knows how to wire up the ECUs correctly. I have never seen anyone else wire up the 1UZ ecus correctly! If they claim they have then I suggest you check the ECU and write down all the error codes which come out. And there are quite a few cars around that have this.
For controlling the Auto you can use the auto which comes in the car (not recommended because its a weaker gearbox than the A340E/A341E which come with the 1uz) and the MX83 stock auto computer, or go tiptronic.
The 1uz fits into the MX83 quite nicely. Talk to Biased99 as he has recently completed his conversion.

Thanks Kdog

I sent him an email but he hasn't got back to me yet. At least I think I did Confused

Did the MX83 come with that two mode ECT and overdrive off button?
I'd prefer to use the Transmission that comes with the 1uz-fe anyway as its newer and shifts very nicely. Well the one in my brother's soarer does anyway.

I probably won't go tiptronic (never liked them much)

Sorry can't remember about the standard auto (its a different A340E to the A340E found behind the SC400) with regards to the two ECT modes, pretty sure it has O/D button.
I'm not sure if the MX83 auto ECU will control the SC400 A340E but it's worth a shot. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't. If I get a chance i'll try and check it out. Either way I would be using the A340E from the SC400.
I'm sure you will need to get an engine from a SC400 or possible the Crown Majesta not Crown Royal Saloon because you need the front mounting sump. Bias will know for sure, sorry I can't remember the details - have a few people who I have helped through there transplants and its hard to remember every ones setups. Plus i'm mainly worried about my own. It figures i've helped 5 people complete their cars and mines still not running. And I only did a small amount for bias anyway.
Biased is probably fairly busy ATM because he's just started a new business.

Anyone need a front sump? I've got one at home as I switched from that to a rear mount.

Has pickup and all bits (no screws).

There has been a 1uz with auto, loom and ecu for sale on this site for a few days. It is $2000 and is in Brisbane I think.

That would probably be a good starting point?
