hey fellas
just tryin to find out what would be my best bet on puttin a 3sge into a ke70
firstly would it be worth it?
and also which gen would i best off gettin? 1, 2 or 3
from what i understand the gen 1 is a bit less powerful and a bit cheaper and the gen 2 and 3 are about the same, what would make the best engine in the ke70 and why?
thanx fellas any help is greatly appreciated

It could certainly be done - the bonnet space on all the rwd corollas is quite generous. I know a guy with a commodore v6 in his ke20, though the firewall had to be modded.
Problem is, for the price of the conversion you could probably pick up a mid 80's celica or possibly even an import mr2.
You really really really have to love the ke70 for it to be worth it.
IF you were to do such a crazy thing, I'd be tempted to get an old 3sfe with a carby from an old camry or something. They should be cheap as chips so you wont have to fork out huge amounts straight away.
Use it to make mounts, line up a gearbox, and work out things like radiators/ignition/basic wiring. If you've got it physically in place, it's only a matter of half a day to make it run. Carbies are piss easy like that.
I know you probably deep down want a 3sgte or something insane like that, so at this point, you've got a gearbox, you've got tailshaft and 80% of the supporting equipment sorted.
Performance will certainly be better than the 4k though it still wont be blistering. However with the crappy motor fitted, you should notice the change in the weight. You may need to attend to the suspension, brakes.
Then should then really start preparing for the real engine by finishing/attending to the other supporting gear, fuel, wiring, ecu.
And finally get the real one.
Half way through fitting the carby motor, which should be worth almost nothing, you might discover that it's a bloody lot of work and not really worth the effort. Then again, you might become really passionate about the car and go for broke.
Either is fine, better to learn on the cheap.
Even if you drop the 4k back or leave the 3sfe in there you should hopefully have learned a lot.
It may seem a bit stupid to do it twice, but I did start a conversion once. It was a lot more work than I expected, a lot more expensive, and never ended up past sitting in the engine bay. I found it easier this time to just buy a car that's already been converted by someone. It's still a project, but its starting point is a lot closer to the finish line.

hey man thanx for you ideas
the way im seeing it is that the engine is gonna be the cheap bit. im currently lookin at 15" rims that match an alfa lsd diff a w57 gbox with w to s bello housing and a drive shaft to suit. prob a fair bit, yet to get an actual value (hoping to get it cheap 1g-gte if ur reading this ) ive been speakin to warrior and he's been sayin that he can get me a gen 1 3sge for $650
i have 2 ke70's, one on the road, one out the back, so i could basically fit it all up in the spare then just swap it all across. i see the value in your plan, but i dont think 650 is too bad, im just not sure if i want the gen 1 or if id be better off gettin a gen 2 or 3
the thing is ive spent 9 months doin rust repair before i got this one on the road, so im sorta already seriously passionate and goin for broke on this car lol
once i get engine mounts im not sure how much hard work im gonna have ahead of me as the drive train will all bolt up
just gotta run water and electrics really....i mean if engine and drive train cost me 3000
i then just gotta stick it all in and the front end brakes is all ill need to do, and i know how and wat to do for that, oh one question, u may know: are coilovers illegal?
the alfa diff comes with disc brakes, so itll be a hell of a lot better than the current drums.
i dont wanna do the job twice coz i dont like finishin only to restart but it isnt a bad idea. but yeah what sorta issues can u see me running into??
thanx for the help
