Hatch Struts st162 plz help!

Hi there, I have just purchased some new hatch struts, but i have one problem, I believe I need a piece of the old strut to install new ones but cant get it off.
The pictures show the little thing i need on the end, and the new one doesn't have it. I have tried unscrewing it, but seems to just turn around, any ideas!>?

nevermind, they are the wrong ones, now these are the second pair that dont fit after the ones i got at the wrecker. Is there something special about whitelightning model someone isn't telling me....
