Engines with AFM's generally have a Circuit Opening Relay (COR) so that the fuel pump gets turned off when the engine stops.
The COR relay sends power to the Fuel pump when the starter circuit is energized (i.e. during cranking), and the flap in the AFM when open provides power to the fuel pump.
Many cars have circuit opening relays that you can easily acquire from the wreckers

yeah thats right, 3tgte uses a circuit open relay, with start signal and afm switch as a trigger.
