AE86 for Racing?

I, like so many of us here, have a AE86 "Sprinter" in my back yard up on jack stands and all stripped apart. And like most of us, I also have a 4A-GE in the shed with plans to put the 2 together...
Many talk of drift etc... Yes I will give that a go. But for something a bit more serious I want to try some real racing, but for that there are strict rules so I need to find out now while building the car. I found this link for 3J Improved Production racing rules:
http://www.iprasa.mx.com.au/rules.htm
And I found this car also:
http://www.uq.net.au/~zzgwalke/team/cos-motorsport /photos.html
So is 3J the class I should go for? Has anyone here done it?
From reading the rules, I think I can use my 20 valve, will have to use 14 x 7" rims with Advan A032R Tyres, 195/60/14 size. Can run the N2 copy duckwing? (can only be 125mm) and can use the OEM front lip. Need a roll cage, but can't have it go through to the strut towers. Can use a strut brace. Can strip it right out for minimum weight. You can use a turbo or another Toyota engine, but that puts you in a different capasity class. I will be happy with a cheap 1.6liter setup.
Any input into how I build the car is welcomed. I am thinking it will be all white with Blackracing/watanabe wheels as thats what Ive got.

Yeah, SEXY16 speaks the truth. Although my car has turned out reasonably cheaply.
The TRD N2 ducktail is a no go, it overhangs the rear bumper of the car. One of the IPRA guys in Sydney (Justin McClintock) has a cut down N2 wing on his car, and the rumour is that he has a mould for it, so you may want to ask him about that one. EDIT: Seems in those photos that Chris is running the cutdown N2 as well.
You can almost strip it out for maximum lightness, just keep the door trims and centre console down to the CD player surrounds. Thats about it as far as it goes.
Always remember when reading the rules, if it doesnt say it is free then it is NOT. So stuff like fibre panels, skirts bonnets etc are all out.
A 3SGE will put you into class B, although from memory there is some good class A racing around Vic. Either way you will still be in Unders (U2L), so if you go to NSW you will be competing with a full unders field (i wish that woudl happen here in SA).
If you have any more questions, just ask.

OK thanks for that. I won't get the N2 duckwing then. I will get the OEM copy front and rear spoilers if anything. My car will also end up very similar to the AE86 N1 class cars they run in Japan. Only the N1 cars have to use a 16valve with stock intake manifold I think. With 3J Improved Production you can run any 4 cyl motor.
I may get the standard vented front brakes, which should work ok with the right pads. I have HiLux 4spots on my blue car, but maybe they are overkill.
I am in Hobart, so probably not a big field of cars to race against. I think 1600 and 2liter run together, and may even run with the bigger cars at times. Racing is on tomorrow, will check it out.

Hey Jonny. All your questions about ipra can be answered here: http://p210.ezboard.com/baustralianimprovedproduct ionracing
And, yes, the class is under 2000cc, so 1600 runs with anything up to 2 litre. I am pretty sure if you have a turbo you run a restrictor, and then times the capacity of your engine by 1.6, not sure though. You would be racing against Scott willing, with his cosworth headed escort, that runs 62 second laps at basky.
Can't wait to see you out there!

P.S. Forget wings and stuff. If you want to be competitive in 3J, you want the least weight as possible, especially in under 2 litre.
