Yogi, who are these sites reserved for???
With the driveway, can you leave your car next to your tent or like eveyone else, does it have to go in the security patrolled carpark???
I am extremely interested in this...
I would kiss you if you would let me in to one of these sites...

So does that mean that if I want to park at this site, I have to enter my car in Summernats??? Like pay to actually enter the show??? How much is the entry just to the show only???
How many cars (roughly) will be able to fit under the marque???
I'm already getting a gold pass so how much more will it be???
If it's not too much, then I'll go ahead with it...

i had a mate who took his gf to summernats this year and said it was the worst thing ever. I'm pretty pissed off that they don't clean up there act. Its time for a more civilized car show to take over that welcomes females as well. fuk that if i'm gonna go there with a girl and she just gets hounded. grow up yobboS!

Thing with summernats is that, yes, it is full of yobbo's and dickheads, but then that's almost the idea, really. Sure if you take your girl there, she'll probably get a bit of a hard time, so my advice would be DON'T. However, I find it amusing in a way - just the general lack of intelligence and stupidity can make for a very amusing few days. Where else can you see people driving around in noisy cars, doing burnouts, yelling, dropping firecrackers, etc., and not really having anyone complaining?
Let's just say I will be there again in 04, hopefully with a few others and a few cars, I will be reasonably behaved, but I will still have a good time. This year I watched as much as possible of the dyno competition, and enjoyed that a lot, as well as a few burnouts and the general yob atmostphere.
btw for anyone that was there, I was the idiot carrying round the big yellow finger!

oh lets let the yobs rule the car shows and become a bunch of fags??
I think they should clean their act up. Or else someone needs to start a new carshow/weekend and keep it strict. What about all the good looking girls that do appriciate cars and want to go but get too hassled. Any wonder 99% of the yobs go home to a blow up dole.

Summernats isn't really my scene either, mainly because of the yobbo's and bogans there.
But.....
You've got to understand that Summernats was created by a bunch of Yobbos FOR Yobbos. If people go down to Canberra expecting anything else then they're not at the right car show.
I agree that there should be an alternative cleaner carshow/weekend, but I don't think it is our place to say that summernats should be cleaned up when it was never intended for someone like me (and I assume you) to attend.
And when I say this, I don't mean that we shouldn't be welcome there, just that if we choose to go we should go full knowing that it is going to be a bit wilder than we would normallly like.

yeah well said. I totally agree. I just hope that a new weekend like summernats is created. Something where the expected night life isn't tits and the expected day life isn't boggans yelling out show us your tits.

Luke!
you are not in a position to comment on the summernats!
you have never been nor do you intend to go.
for the last two years I have placed posts and treads on here regarding the summernats to which you have replyed "i will make an appearance" (but you never did)
All your information that you base your accounts is coming from second-hand information.
Please stop giving the summernats a bad name!
If your after a weekend event....you always have the Autosalon!
All the years that i have been attending the summernats, I have seen first hand why girls get harassed and I have to safely say that 90% of them ask for it!
If anyone is interested in this years summernats please let me know!
To answer rollaboys questions!
to bring your car into the nats you have to do one of two things.
1.enter the summernats as a show car.
which gives you all the entitlements
2. bring your car in as a on-site support vehicle.
if you bring it in as a support vehicle, you cannot drive it.
around at all!
the site will easily fit up to 12 cars.
last year we had two fridges and a playstation 2 to keep us busy!

Yep, the last 2 years ive thought about going but have decided against it in return for rare time with my family.
I've watched at least 5 home video's , and the storys i hear are not just rumours. Sure girls ask for it when wearing revealing clothes, but how about my mates gf how is just plain hot, she was wearing normal clothes and everywhere he went with her he was nearly getting into fights cause off all the wanking gorkers. I think that puts me in a position to comment. As for autosalon, it hardly has the performance side that summernats has. What australia needs, is a serious performance car show, show and shine, burnouts and drags. All in a civilized enviroment.
We don't see eye to eye on these things yogi, and i don't wanna see this turn into an argument. you have your opinion, i have mine and it is well backed up.

Easiest, most logical answer to the problem of being harassed is.....if you don't like it....then don't go!
It has been a part of Summernats since day one and if you didn't know that, then you have been living in a cave!
Sure it would be great to have the perfect event with the best cars and all the motoring events, but who would go?
It would bore the living shit out of me and every other entrant!
you may feel that you know what you are talking about, but a handful of mates who have had a hard time and a couple of minutes of video are hardly enough for you to form such a ugly image of the summernats!
I don't want an argo, but this is subject Iam very familiar with!

err. I know what i'm talking about and so does the majority of people. Most people turn a blind eye to the bogan behaviour, but seriously, Fast Cars, Well presented Cars, Quick times, High hp figures and NO horny wankers would make the perfect car show, how could u even think of getting bored?? It is those aspects of cars that are exciting. The rest is just a wank.

i agree with you both, i have never been to the nats, but the "Easternats at sandown Melbourne" its similar but very small, and the drunks really piss me off, yelling crap and spilling there drinks on the fans and all the rest but i must say other times they are as funny as hell, the ford and holen guys having fights
even the driver that blew up his holden and it started on fire, people were yelling at him to stop but he kept driving till it burnt, thought people were laughing with him, but we were laughing at him. Every one had a good laugh.
Thank god i aint a chick tho, they get hammered
P.S if i was a chick i'd be a dam ugly one hehe

summernats will always be in the eye of the beholder..
i love it there, and i intend on going this year and every year that its held...
i took my girl friend this year, and all she had to do from keeping out of trouble was wear a loose t shirt and some pants,
she didnt get one comment. and she is by all means not ugly.
we spent the majority of friday and saterday at summernats and a great time was had by all...
if ur a girl at summernats who wants to be looked at then shes gunna get looked at and hounded out with corny lines like
"show us ur tits love"
if thats not her perticular thing.. then there are 2 rules...
dont go at night.
and dont wear tight club type clothes.
having said that.. summernats is a rough place to go. and yes there are fukwit yobbos who give the girls a hard time.
and it is unpleasant... but ive seen more than one security guard kick the piss outta a yobbo or 3

My turn now
Yes, summernats sure is full of yobbos and dickheads (Y+D's) - as has been said, it was started by Street Machine, therefore it really is expected. I also agree that it would be nice to have a 'car festival' with all the horsepower and without the Y+D's, but not instead of summernats - I would go to both! As well as Horsepower Heroes, burnouts, well done cars (that shortened HQ wagon was brilliant I reckon!) and the other stuff that makes summernats so good, theres a great opportunity to have a good laugh at the Y+D's! Priceless...
In the tent next to me there were some A grade Y+Ds, they'd gone to the trouble of getting those medical drink bag thingo's from the chemist to smuggle in bourbon, they had fireworks, etc., but then they weren't really so bad - I loaned them a hammer for their tent pegs, they let me use their little gas grill, and everyone was happy. And the thing that made getting to sleep the hardest wasn't the Y+Ds, but that bloody generator that was running the lights over the camping area
So... I'll be there again in 2004, who else is joining me? Plus its one of the few such events where I don't have to see large numbers of CRX's with checker plate, ironing board spoilers, stickers, and all the other garbage that places like autosalon are for.

Luke,
Mate I agree with what you would like to see in a car show but to be honest I think the only way that will happen is if Toymods Start something which is always possible With the right Support.
Summernats always has been and always will be for the knuckle draging V8 brigade. BUT I must say I entered in 2002 and Had a great week I WILL be there once my car is finished..... WHY, Becuase its people like Yogi and other 4 cylinder fanatics who have the balls enough to enter a minority class vehicle into these events that gives an increased awareness and public profile for those of us who do still want a High Horsepower 4 or EFI vehicle as opposed to the V8 boat anchors and holden Six's
Hell why do you think I entered the Autosalon.. The same reason only the other end of the spectrum, There is nothing like upsetting a ricer or die hard Ford/Holden fan with some quality performance muscle from Japan
Summernats is rough and not really for the faint hearted, ( female or otherwise) BUT you know what your attending before you go Its like a priest attending a gang bang then complaining cause it wasn't his thing !
Small Car sunday is one of the only events left that caters for the kind of Show I would persoanlly like to see. Combine that with some driving events and your really talking. There are thoughts floating about for looking into that for us Toyota fans but the Toyota Nats is there for now and hopefully with some support this year may be the means to fill this requirement. Failing that there are already a back up plan or two being considered by some of us but anything worthwhile take alot of time and money so there won't be anything emerging overnight. To date the best car event I've been too was the Unofficial Nats encouraged by Toymods two years ago. !

Ive never been to summernats (living in SA) but it sounds like its worth putting up with the bogans. The problem is Im trying to get into the airforce so I dont know where Im going to be next year. There is a fair chance that Ill be on that side of the country though.
Do the tickets sell out? if so approximatly how long befor the event? Would there be a place to chuck my swag out for a night or two at late notice if I am around?

The Gold passes usually sell out pretty fast...
If you want to camp, I'd say ring early and guarantee a place for you before leaving it too late...
You are able to buy passes to watch the show at the gate...
