JZA70 or not??
|

hey guys....
right now i'm looking at joining the illustrious group of owning a toyota by buyin a JZA70 Supra. From what i heard the 1jz engine accompanied by the r154 gearbox is virtually bulletproof, if as usual it is looked after and treated with some respect.
i was hoping that i someone would be able to offer some suggestions as to what problems i should be looking for in these cars. Although, being an import that is bout 15yrs old i understand that none will be in 'new car' condition.
Also, anyone know any respectable places in adelaide to get an import and to get it complied?
Any help would be much appreciated!

go the jza-70, the engines and trannys are probably not treated with respect (for obvious reasons) but they are very, very strong and you have to be retard who can`t shift properly {i.e. don`t use the clutch or something) to blow one up... btw who has a wife and girlfriend??? at the same time?

Im most probably going to end up with an a70 series supra...
im hoping a jz variant.
i know the r154 gearboxes are impossibly strong, but there is one tiny part that fails commonly, but buggered if i can remember what it is, if i remember correctly its something to do with either first or second gear...
that said, the 1JZ goes hard, never home

first gear thrust washer i believe. But shouldn't be a problem if driven properly.
Have heard hilux ones are a stronger replacement, could be wrong.

The jza70 are an awesome car and as said above the 1jz are virtually bulletproof as long as they are looked after and maintained properly. They do cost quite a bit to keep happy, but that is pretty much the deal with any older sports car - don't buy one if your not prepared to pay to maintain it, this is often overlooked and the first mistake people make.
There are definately some nicer examples around so don't go straight for the first one that pops up, the best place to look for one is Perth as more seem to be in this state than any other - this is due to most of the compliancing of them happening here.
I managed to pick up a well looked after and clean example which I've had for about a year and to be honest apart from basic maintenance, absolutely nothing has went wrong with the car and it drives like a dream. I have about 171,000km's showing on my odo too which is probly worth a mention.
The aftermarket support for these cars Isn't the best, but with a bit of hunting and knowing where to look you shouldn't have too many troubles finding goodies for it. Having said all that, i say go for it as they are an excellent car!

its lighter, more luxury options and do the torsen swap and you have all the componentry of the JZA70 anyway...
plus soarers look 100% better IMO...

Seems to me your basing it on biasism just like me.
Anyway whats more luxurious about them? just curious how it compares to a jap import limted GT supra with all the luxury trimmings.
where would the soarer be without borrowing some supra componentry eh?
By the way the fact is the supra looks better.
(non of this pimp stuff)

Soarer > supra
That makes two against one!@

Seriously though, I think he just doesn't want to have this silly argument, because aesthetics aside, they're both just cars. And good ones at that! (hell, they're Toyotas)
So yeah... Maybe he just got over this quarrel one post before you did.

I'm acutally interested in what luxury options the soarer had that the supra didn't? i've got a limited and its got pretty much everything i can think of..
ps. No doubt the a70 and z20 are both wonderful machines in their own respect!
