It means he'd like to measure it all and make sure it's all within tolerances.
The bearing (photo 1) looks brand new. I presume photo 2 is the crank journal. There appear to be grooves on the journal....this might just be oil or it may be an actual groove/ridge. If the latter is the case then the crank needs to be machined. If you can feel it, it needs to be ground - you'll need new undersize bearings.

Hi GT,
the journal feels very smooth.
I have only taken this 1 cap off.

Ok that's good. Last thing you might want to do is check the clearances with a bit of Plastguage. Remember to remove all traces of the Plastiguage before reassembling the motor.
Cheers Dave.

IMHO i think gianttomato's got it right - it's a new bearing - never been run or run very little.
look at those flakes around the dowel in the block - next to the locating tab - i believe those are from pushing the new insert in and to top it off, they didn't even clean up before bolting the cap back on. those flakes are crushed & flattened right? it wouldn't have lasted very long!!

"mic" - short for micrometer

****************
CamZH, the flat surface on the block that the caps are bolted on in the second picture, the surface that HAS TO BE perfectly flat & clean- those shiny spots that are around the bolt hole look to me like bits that have been scraped off of the back of the bearing. i've only gotten them when i've replaced bearings with the crank in place/not removed.

i can be wrong!
