wft does a pintle cap do? Thu, 06 June 2002 12:56 Go to next message
i give up!!

have been playing with these bloody injectors, and i think i'm over it! aligning the pintle cap to be perfectly aligned on the injector tip (exactly over the pintle) is damn near impossible, and im afraid it going to wreck the spray pattern...

from what i can see, the cap does nothing for spray quality normally, so WHAT do they do??

thermal insulation?
reduce carbon buildup?
wtf?

aggghhhhhh!!!!

nevermind:

fyi

" The plastic hats are only there to protect the pintle ends and don't play much part in the spray pattern on the stock injectors. A cracked one just looks bad"

cool, gratuitous post # increase

and i guess this means no-one knows shit about pintle caps?!

jcmf...yep, still playing, but sorted it out last night.

gt...got it sorted. will still use the manifold i cleaned yesterday as the 3mm of metal removed from the inside is totally inconsequential. infact, might be good to reduce heat soak of the injectors.

jcmf... how on earth did your post count get THAT big??

cheers

Excellent. Do you reckon you'll have it ready for your trip to Melb? Bolt it straight up to the 5MTE! Did you get the little grommets from Toyota? Surprised
I'll ring Ridgecrest today about a copper head gasket for the thing and measure the comp ratio tomorrow.....I have been flat out.
Cheers Dave.
Argh...stupid work computer! What thickness were you after?

haha... forgot about the gromets! will ring in a min (persoanly, i like my fuel hose idea)

h/g.. like i said, depends on the comp/r at the moment, but at a guess, with 12psi in the back of my mind, im thinking 1.00-1.20mm?

ill probably send the manifold down rather than bring it. that way you can have some time up your sleeve to fit it.

have to retest the inj spray ttomorrow (might have buggered one last night), and check the consistency of flow rate b/w injectors... might have to go hunting for some spares to make up a 5% matched set.

cheers

1mm 95 + freight
2mm 150 + freight

Will check comp ratio tomorrow. I'll also have to check and see if they recommend the head needs to be machined to suit.

goddamn, thats cheap!

head machined? just resurfaced... or are we talking o-ringing?

what are you thoughts on final comp/r at say 10-12psi boost? i remember reading somewhere a max of 11.8 was sustainable for an NA 5m stock.

with a new h/g and a hairdrier, i'm not sure what the target should be.

not yet anyway... let the reading commence

cheers

There is also a wider range but being a pretty basic guy I just went for the basic thicknesses. By machining, I meant a surfacing that was appropriate for a copper head gasket, as opposed to O-ringing.
I reckon 10 psi with a bigger blower and thick head gasket and take it from there!
Wow! Nasty nasty price for less rubber than a condom! And way less fun!

not sure abut comp/r.. feel like im pissing in the wind with this one... though with the right plugs, 98RON fuel (lots of it) and a carbon free engine...

say at 12psi we aim for a final comp/r of between 13.5 and 14.5??
that means aiming for an initail comp/r of 7.5 - 8.0.

im thinking any lower and its going to be a SLUG off boost.

sooo... h/g thinckness comes down to what current comp/r is really.

what did you say retard was at peak boost? 15 deg??

cheers

Re: wft does a pintle cap do? Fri, 07 June 2002 07:08 Go to previous messageGo to next message
and then theres the idea that its made to run at 6psi. so start off with comp/r of like 8, and happily run 6psi with and ECR of 11-12, then when the day comes for the t3/4 and 12psi, implement the methanol injection, and that will take care of the 14+ ECR at boost.

blagh... where do you reckon this thing is gong to start detonating? im thinking a ECR around 11.5 ish. theres no point retarding the timing too much to compensate, it just becomes wasteful.

Um, do you remember when you first asked, all you wanted was a simple 5M with a turbo that would run a comfortable 6 psi and be reasonably tractable on the street?
Now it's a low comp T3/4 hybrid running 12 psi and methanol injection! hehehe

Yeah...its nothing compared to me though.
Look at my list of things I wanted/want to do:
1GGTE --> RA60 Celica
1GGTE --> Mk2 Supra
1JZGTE --> Mk2 Supra
1UZFE --> Mk2 Supra
1UZFE w/ individual throttle bodies --> Mk2 Supra
(I'd still like to do these, either with/without ITB's)
3UZFE w/ ITB's --> SZ-R Mk4 Supra

I still reckon it sounds like a nice list Smile

gt... "when in rome"

no, really, its more a case of maximising whats there whilst taking into account the effort/cost/reward ratio... keep it simple. take care of the small things at the start, and the big things will look after themselves later.

if a t3/4 with methanol injection is feasable in the longrun given a little forethought early, i say 'why not' Rolling

later
ed

but yes, youre right... humble beginnings...

Razz
Nah....they're all easy things to do, particularly whilst the engine is on the stand. And relatively good value for money.

Re: wft does a pintle cap do? Fri, 07 June 2002 13:41 Go to previous message
shite,

injector no. 1 has a terminal spray problem... only *just* but there are definietly some heavier droplets in its spray...bugger No No No

off to the wreckers tomorrow, find another 1 280 150 215/216...

and GT... btw, i dont plan to run 12psi, just using that as the overenginerring threshold... would be more than happy pushing 10psi through, having spooled at 2.8-3.2k, peaking 3.5-4k.

but thats some ways off now isnt it....

cheers
