Are they the same cos iv been lookin for ae101 lsd drive shaft for my lsd gear box and iv been told that all the e58 shafts are the same regardless of whether they came from an lsd gearbox or not. Is this true???

Hi,
I have been having big hassles trying to sort out drive shafts for my AW11 MR2, into which I installed an AE101-LSD-E58 gearbox.
For me I could only use the passenger shaft as is. The Driver side shaft was too long. (AE101 has wider track and motor closer to middle of vehicle - about 40-50mm).
The E58(AE101-SC-LSD) and E153 (93 onwards Turbo SW20) are the same piece of hardware, with different bellohousings (I think). The passenger side (short) drive shaft from the E58 viscous LSD is a unique shaft which you must have in order to properly engage into the viscous LSD. Actually the driver side shaft is 'special' too as the splines are 30mm long instead of the more usuall 25mm approx that the E51 shafts have. Of the E58 shafts only the passenger E58 shaft has a C-CLIP.
I am 99% sure an 93+ SW20 Turbo drive drafts will work, but the AE101 has a wider track than the AW11, not sure about AE92.
For me this mean the drivers side LONG shaft with the straight section is about 40mm too long, so I need to use the 93+LSDSW20Turbo (phew) intermediate shaft (shorter) and then bolt that to the short section for my E51 passenger shaft!!!
Not sure if I can just use the whole SW20 drivers side shaft, but with my stub axle.
Hope this helps..
Cheers, Nick.

well i figure as long as i have the short drive shaft all is well and i can put my 4age 100kw on the other side which works out good for me cos the guy i bought the box off has left the short shaft in and taken the cv out of it so i just mate that up to my 4age cv/drive shaft again and im done with that dilemar. Thanks Nick. PS-u have a cool name.

E58 lsd CV shafts are bigger than E58 non-lsd shafts, and the two are not interchangeable
Here's some pics i took of the input spline dimensions of the lsd E58-11C gearbox, just so that you can compare....
NOTE: The passenger side shaft is the first two pics, and the drivers side the 3rd..... also note this spline is the same size as a hilux axle!!!!

oops!!! you're right there buddy!!
Yeah, the LSD shafts only fit an LSD equipped E58 box, and the non-lsd shafts dont fit an LSD box.
