Firing problems?? 4K-C Mon, 07 November 2005 11:28 Go to next message
Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone has had ignition problems with a 4k-c.
I'm thinking i may need new leads. (replaced plugs, points, cap, condenser, rotor button, all except leads (but leads are only 18months old and tested ok on an ohm meter.
The car seems to lag when i open up the throttle more than 40% down. Kind of smooths out with higher rpm. Anyone have a 4k-c vacuum info diagram?? might be vac advance i dont know
help much appreciated (reco carby fitted)
thanks
kane

Coil? I have a spare coil that is almost brand new off my 4k and some spare leads that I was using on the 4k... Will give you the lot for $20+post.

Keep in mind the 4k carby is very restrictive, as is the airbox, chop some holes in the side of the airbox and you'll notice alot more low down power as it wont just feed fuel and starve it of oxygen.

Rofl my 4K went hard right till the point.. I got rid of it and opted for a 4AGE hahah. I remember the last week of 4K was the most fun I'd ever had with it.. With the airbox mod you can rev it to 7000RPM without it running out of air, just expect it to scream at you Smile.

It wasnt the highcam 4k but Sad

for if it was i would have been going 2kw quicker Surprised

and 30kph out of fisrt gear meant the engine was having a good day Cool

Those were the days

7000rpm but Confused must have been territory only reached
with the trusty highcam Surprised

place a pipe in front of the engine fan hook it up to the air intake
on the dodgy air box, you've got yourself forced induction Laughing

hey dude, im not phrostbyte but i can tell u where the vac advance goes.
just take a long vac pipe from the advance (obviously) and run it to the other side of the carbo (other side is far side from vac advance) and there is about 5 little inlets that go into the carb, just use one of those.
this is basically wat the diagram only it used the same inlet to the carb to feed a few other things so the vac advance doesnt definately work very well, this way it works no dramas Very Happy

oh and if u are after the vac diagrams i have scanned mine, cant find the upload file button here :S
maybe i cant do it in tech and conversions:S
anywho if u want one rollaclubs.com has one, however although they both claim to be 4k-c mine is a bit different :S
meh its all just for cold start up emission control anyway, as long as all the inlets into places are hooked uip properly or blocked off its not a big issue. as long as the dizzy advance is in the rite place, and the cannister, then the rest can just be all blocked off, as long as u got no leaks u shouldnt have any dramas
cheers
