80's Grp A Toyota pics...

Now If I have ever tried to undertake something stupid this was it. Lack of ram, 28.8K net connection among other things.
I went through some of my old mans car books, wanting to look at the days when it wasnt just Commodore and Holden. Then decided to scan some for myself..... and then decided to share here just in case anyone had any interest.
So far it has taken me 6hrs and Ive got thru 3 books, and 6 more to go... and that is only the books on hand.
Hope someone gets a lil enjoyment out of this....

Ok, well the fuel cover/flap is closed. Perhaps they don't use that I am guessing as there is a big port which seems to be a for fuel above it. But then; what the hell is that hose filling up connected to the port just under the pillar?????

Thats cool, i was just pissed that the car was in the corner and the front window had a big fucking beam in it otherwise i would of got more pics of it. Speaking of which i may see if I can find my photos from two years ago when i actually went thru the museum it may have been on display plus I may have pics of other 80's cars.

dont they have some sort of system to lift the car(in a hurry to fix stuff mid race), could be something to do with that as the car is raised in that shot.
compressed air maybe.

hmmm air compressed jacks, nah the pic was taken from inside the shop front of the museum i couldn't get a full on side shot because of the glass thats all. But as you can see in the pic from inside the mirror of a motorbike is there. They really wanted to hide the fucker from cameras to make you pay to go thru the museum to get pics of other cars.
As for whether it was a runner or not no idea bonnet was closed and couldn't really get down the front to have a squiz thru the grill.
I'd assume it'd still have all the shit in it as most of the car in the museum do. It's odd as it's one of the few coupe's as most of the racing one's you posted have been hatches.

Hmm different car though or atleast different year thats car 71 my pic is of car 31 perhaps sister cars. Just found my photos, only good pic I have (only 80's pic is of the brock VK), will scan it in later and post it. Alas thinking about it bathurst 2003 I wasn't on toymods yet and thus didn't even know what an AE86 was. So if one was on display i probably went meh .

Hahaha, hadn't got mugged by Takumi way back then ay?
The VK, he so called last of the big-bangers.
Be an interesting experiment if the writers make Takumi write off his hatch, and he ends up with the 2 door coupe as a replacement....

Lol i knew the cartoon existed from various ads in mags and shit but never knew what the fuck it was on about. To this day i have still never actually seen an episode of initial D, but alas i can spot sprintah's a mile off.
It'd be interesting to find the whereabouts of some of these cars i mean not all of them would of been crashed and not all would be in museums. Think about it fully race prepped sprinter with a worked bigport sure they'd be pretty ratty by now but man would you be the envy of the crowd .
Even to find an engine and pull it down to see what they had done would be cool and also might help with a few tuning tips.

I went to the museum last week. There were no other Toyotas inside.
The most interesting car was the 92' GTR (fully repaired after it's crash in the rain). Man that thing is chockas with go fast bits. Huge intercooler too.
Other interesting cars were...
88' Longhurst Sierra (with bonnet open for close inspection of goodies)
94' 12hour Mazda RX7
83' Nissan Exa turbo
97' Audi A4
...plus the usual Commodores & Toranas.

It is the air jacks hose.
A lot of cars then had it around the bottom of the A pillar so that as soon as the car came in to the pits, the air hose could quickly be plugged in. The car basically leaps up- and drops just as hard when removed (I was working inside an ex Tony Longhurst BMW when it was dropped- which probably explains a few things..)
I guess they put it in the middle on the ae82 so it was out of the way of the wheel changers.
Must find all my old Bathurst photos, including TTA ae92 with bonnet up. Have you seen the air filter set up they used ?
