Auto cross / motorkhana Tue, 14 January 2003 05:53 Go to next message
Does anyone know of anywhere close to the city (Brisbane) where they run an auto-cross or motorkhana?

Would like to start playing around and I reckon motorkhana's would be a good place to start. Do you need a special license (CAMS?) and if so what do you have to do to get it? Are motorkhana's expensive to enter (due to public liability?), about how much should I expect?

Cheers
Wilbo

You'll prob have to join a car club, in bathurst, there is the bathurst light car club (www.blcc.com.au), you have to have a cams license, and also be a member of the club, then you can enter their avants (including motorkhana and autokhana's)

about 50 for the license, 50 for the membership, not sure on the cost of the event, I presume it'll be much the same there.

Tim.

Not that many clubs are doing motorkhanas etc any more due to public liability insurance hassles... the Celica club used to, but they stopped a couple of years back because they were no longer covered by their insurance company for such events.

Anyway, apparently the Brisbane Sporting Car Club and the Holden Sporting Car Club are fairly active in this sort of thing. I've seen the latter doing events in the pit area at Qld Raceway, and they seem to have all makes of vehicles despite their name. Check out http://www.theride.com/ccq.html for car club contact details in Qld.

Any idea when they will decide to run one?

Will I need a CAMS license, if so what do you need to do to get one?

EDIT: guess I will need a CAMS license (http://www.wrx.com.au/html/motorsportentry.htm)
has some info on it...

Cheers
Wilbo

What do you mean they don't do many motorkhana's anymore? there is at least one every weekend somewhere, then you also have Khanacross'es, hillclimbs, autocross, super sprints dirct circuits ect.

go onto the cams site it has a list of all the car clubs and event calenders,

you must join a club first of all so just pick the cheapest club as often you can go in almost any event no matter what club is holding the event but you have to be a member of a car club to get a cams license and to get a standard cams license so you can do motorkhanas and khanacrosses is a CAMS level 2NS license, costs $52 adult for 12 months, just pay and you have got it no tests to do or anything.
