hey,
i've got a stock 3spd auto in my '84 ae71 (4ac) rolla and i want to put a 4spd auto in it (not a manual at this stage) for freeway cruising.
does anyone here know what 4spd auto box i would need that would bolt in without any modifications? what corolla's would they be from?
Cheers!

Probably one from a AE-86?
Did these come with 4 speed autos??
Other wise you might have to get one from a RA60 and get a custom bell housing and mod your gear box cross member if need, and possibly tail shaft too!
Best option is a T50 from a AE-71 or a AE-86.

Other option is if you're not too fussed by performance (which I presume you're not if you've got an auto ae71!), throw in some taller diff gears.

Theoretically your car would have the Borg Warner diff, I'm not sure what ratio though. Try talking to your nearest diff place, see what gears are available, or maybe swap in a T18/AE86 rear end and see what gears are available for a T series diff (im not entirely sure)

I was under the impression the AE71 Corolla has much the same chassis as the T18 (TE72), which would suggest it was a T series diff. The tallest T series I've come across is 3.7:1, which probably isn't much taller than what he has already...
