4age wont rev???? Tue, 14 January 2003 21:18 Go to next message
Hey all,

Just put the motor back into an 86 rolla and it starts and idles fine. But as soon as you open the throttle the motor dies.

If you hold the throttle just open it will rev up-die-rev up-die...and so on.

Any ideas???????

Thanks

Freak i would check your vacum lines are all in the correct places, the afm or map is plugged in correctly, the oxygen sensor is plugged in, fuel is right, ummmmmmmm.......

basically go over the whole engine bay and check all connections etc.......

good luck.. Smile

Have you chacked your cam timing? One tooth out and it will start but not rev.

Do you mean the actual cams one tooth out? OR the distributor one tooth out?

Theres a chance that the dizzy could be one tooth out because in the book i have it says two different things. Firstly it says line the rotor button up with the number one cylinder post in the cap. Then in the next paragraph it says line the marks on the driven gear (of the dizzy) with the one on the dizzy housing.

Which ways correct?

I did the second and it doesnt quite place the rotor on the number one cylinder post.

You have to line up the marks,
Did you replace the spark plugs ??
Thats what i forgot to do when i rebuilt my engine Sad
and sounded very similar to what yours is doing
after i replaced them my engine was fine

but also possibly sounds like a vacume leak somewhere ??

FIXED.

Thanks for the input. It turned out to be the TPS. The new motor i got must have run a different style tps as the pickups were rotated 90 degrees from my original motor. Just swapped the pickup plate and its running fine.

With the TPS you have to set it up with feeler guages. Yes the motor will run if its not setup but if you check the diagnostics it will still come up with an error. It seems to only affect the smoothness of drive when it's otu of adjustment
