w5x + 4age clutch questions Sat, 12 November 2005 09:23 Go to next message
hi all,
i have a bigport 4age with a sad t-50 behind it. i've decided to replace it with a w55 (plans to turbo the engine in the future). so far i've got the box and a custom bellhousing to suit, now i'm looking into clutchs. i had a look around this site to see what i could use : http://www.autobarn.com.au/html/getFile.asp?table= tbl_TCA_Article_Files&field=image&id=62
i found quite a few which appear to have the right dimensions etc, but they all seem to have different part numbers. for example: LITEACE
PETROL
KM11, 1.3 Ltr78-79 200 X 29 X 21 TYK-6286 200-3286001
KM20, 1.3 Ltr80-82 200 X 29 X 21 TYK-6287 200-3296001
KM20, 1.3 Ltr, KM36, 1.5 Ltr, 5 Speed83-92 200 X 29 X 21 TYK-6822 200-10276001 TYK-6822HD
YM21, 1.8 Ltr, 5 Speed, YM30, 35, 1.8 Ltr84-88 215 X 29 X 21 TYK-6255 225-2956201
im thinking as long as its 200 x 29 x 21 it will suit...am i right there?
also, there were a few that would suit a 215mm flywheel - would it be worth the extra cost of buying a 215mm flywheel? my engine is currently stock and im on a uni student budget, so im thinking off the shelf heavyduty will suit my needs? any other thoughts?
thanks for your help Smile

if your going for more horse power then a bigger surface area for your clutch is going to benificial. depending which bellhousing your using you could use a 4AGZE flywheel (223mm or 230mm) but i know the dellow bellhousing requires mofidication to fit a GZE flywheel, in which case a smallport 16v or 20v flywheel (212mm) will be ok for you.

ring exedy and speak to them they can match you up with the correct parts

For what you have now, a full face organic and heavy duty pressure plate will be fine. You can always go more heavy duty, but it's up to you.

I seem to remember that some Hiace (and so probably Liteace) clutches match up, being 200mm diameter and having the bigger 29 by 21 (from memory) spline.

If you plan on a turbo, definitely go for a 212mm fly at least. Though you can always do that down the track.

Any decent clutch place should be able to hook you up with what you need. If they cant, go elsewhere.

for some reason i thought the smallport flywheel was 215mm...so i think i'll stick with the 200mm for the time being. the turbo plan is very much in the distant future, thats just the reason i choose to use a w55 instead of just bolting in another t50
thanks for the help Smile
