Luke,
It will be great to see both you and the Cressida at the creek.
Your right, some of the times are slow - but you never know what will happen with some MINORadjustments to the Porn Star.
Did you go on Wednesday night - if so how did you go????
When is the next meet???????????

ohhh HAHA lol
All the "6bangers" i know are damn quick but it all takes time, money and effort. Plus, my car is just some fun on the side, and a lot of fun it is. I do 1000km's a week in the bird, and it loves it!

Michael,
Alot of that money is for things that he has broken too i might add!
Now, if maybe a girl was driving it, it would probably make it to the end of the quarter mile with Nothing broken.

I attended a local drag stip in northern Tasmanian in 1997. The boys talked me into running the car with stock-standard engine..............big mistake! I raced 69 Mazada R100 with a 13b EFI turbo (Maztec of Melbourne built car with all the good stuff) The R100 snapped a rear axle on the start and rolled over the finish line with an 18 flat. Needless to say I was still beaten by 1/2 a second. Now thats shamefull! Yes I coped a fair amount of shit from the boys.
Justin
mental note: no trips to the drags with a stock 2T anymore.

Nah Teenz, he's not breaking things, he's "developing" things. It's a process all quick cars go through, it's just the quickest (and cheapest really) way to work out the weak point in your car. Once that part has been "developed", you need to find the next weakest link, and develop that.
And if you can't find any more weak links in your car, then obviously your engine needs to be "fixed" (like mine, I have to "fix it" with a turbo).
Thus it's an on-going cycle.
The only reason you're car goes as hard as it does (mind you it was soundeding far from healthy today ) is because rod has "developed" the car into what it is. You should be grateful.
Mind you, there's no way I'm gonna let him develope anything on my car!

Yogi..... By December ur goin to wish u had said none of the above, cos there is goin to be 1 slightly modified "6 banger" dumping on you from a great height.....and it will do it with a 1/4 of the cash u spent on ur car and without the laughing gas. And it will make the corner at the end of the straight!!! We all know how "hard" it is to drive a car in a straight line, but i am willing to put money on it that a certain 1JZ Cressida with stock brakes, wheels and tyres (and auto) could flog u around any circuit on any given day. The reason why most of us DONT go and do the 1/4 mile (as "enjoyable" as driving flatout in a straight line is ) is that we couldnt give a shit about quick the car is over 400m. Since when does a drag on the street last for any more than 150m??? Having an overall package that corners, brakes and goes hard in a staight line is alot more satisfying. So get over the fact that u NEED 20psi+ to make the power out of your 1600cc weazer (and the laughing gas if u feel inadequate), and give up THINKING ur the ducks nuts.
PS......it had to be said Luke

I agree Toyrota. however some members continually compare thier cars to others with a 1/4 the money spent on them.Anyones car can go hard and look good if they have the money to throw at it. Some of us have budgets and other commitments so we cant build our cars overnight. I am sick of cocky pricks batting off about how sick their car is and how its the quickest, most powerful, best looking etc in the club (sometimes the world!) I dont care what a person has done to their car as long as they are happy with it. We build cars to please ourselves not to try to impress or keep up with the Jones's!!!!!!!!! I hope people dont stray from their own idea's and try to follow others. If we did that we would all drive CRX's or Civics with 2 tonne fibreglass kits and 20in rims. That my 2 bob anyway!! Jamie

well I have been out of touch with this forum and cars in general for a while due to other commitments and it's a shame to see the childish behaviour going on. This club is for people who get a buzz outta Toyotas, especially modded ones. Each person has their own attachment to their ride and with cars I'm sure you'll agree that money should be politely left out of the equation. You should never put a price on love (unless it hurts) Take the piss, sure, but otherwise if their is no encouragement, take it elsewhere. ...let some other club feel your negative vibes.

I have noticed the hostility in this thread as well. I think it's OK to have an opinion, as long as you respect the opinion of others. There are ways to state your opinion with attacking other ideas.

YOGI8U, Don't worry about them mate. You have succeeded with your dream and I bet you’ve worked your arse off to get there! I've had my Celica for 7 years and it’s still not finished! I love my car and I don't give a shit if it pulls an 18.5 second 1/4. I work 7 days a week and good things come to those who wait. My brother and I have worked our guts out since we were both 16 years old. I know how it feels when people make smart arse jealous comments about your assets. When I go home on holidays we always take his ski-boat out for a spin. We use his 1999 HSV to tow it, and the locals can't help themselves. They have to make nasty comments and make pricks of themselves! I don't understand why, but that’s just how some people are? You just have to ignore them and stick with your good mates and family. I had to leave my home town, my family and all my friends to join the navy. A lot of people ask me why I did it? The answer is simple, as it has helped me set myself up for the rest of my life. Right now I'm working my second job and paying 42% tax. It’s a bloody long weekend and I’m working and my wife it at home. It sux, but come next year I'll have my home for all my toys and that is my dream! Fuck the green eyed monsters, and enjoy you car! I said to my brother just last week, you may have a nice HSV, a shit hot ski-boat and sick little Escort but never forget who you really are. We are normal Aussie guys that work hard to achieve the good things in life. Some times you have to pretend to like some young guys shit box car but at least it makes him feel good and you’ll probably make a new friend at the end of the day. I remember talking to you at the 2001 Sydney Auto Saloon and to be honest buddy, you didn’t want to give me the time of day, but maybe you were just busy? Rod on the other hand was very proud of his car and couldn’t stop talking about it, which I thought was fantastic. Don't be too cocky with what you've got, which I'm sure your not. Just enjoy it and if the whole car scene is getting you down, try a new hobby for a while, this works for me. I can recommend dirt bikes, RC gas cars, computing, ski-boats, road-bikes and eating! I don’t recommend the navy, but I’ve have had some good times and I’ve seen some wonderful places all over the world.
Justin
Lock it up tight dude, there’s way to many arseholes out there.

Well lets make this all one sided hey. Thanks Guys.
I'm just sick and tired of YOGI's little digs at me in every thing he says. All i can say is, if your not happy in a car club, leave. Don't say, "luke, thats why i joined another car club". Mate put your hand up and do something? Obviously in reaching your dream you would have learnt alot about building 4agte's ... so write some tech articles??
You called Ben's engine a Taliban motor, but how many have you been through. Its funny, you can dish it out but get cut when someone tells you to pull your head in.
I'm getting flamed from all sides because of these posts but we have a freedom of speach. Maybe you could write a letter this time if you want me to step down as vice president.

Yogi,
Just a friendly observation.
I think you'll find it isn't jealousy of success, more a dislike for overactive ego's.
Surely you couldn't expect comments like this one to do anything other than make people dislike you?

Well Bugger me ladies I spend 3 days under a car and all hell brakes loose !!
Firstly guys this is a SOCIAL club the idea is to help and encourage each other not fight amongst ourselves.
In any club this size there will be people who have conflicting personalities. If you don't like someone bit your tongue and speak to someone else ! Its not like there is a shortage of Toymodders.
I'll be keeping an eye on the thread anymore thinly vailed attacks will see the death of this thread.
Whilst ever i have any say in they way this club runs it will always be a club that welcomes all mannar of Toyota people. I don't care if you build it for fun or for show or don't even build it you shoul always feel welcome here.
Luke and Yogi, Guys......... Get a room !!
Phil, (Traction Issues) Mate I know your personal preference is track work and not the quarter but each to their own. The quarter mile provides a measurable standard of comparison just like a dyno or a lap time. There will always be a group of people who prefer this option.
As a general statement horsepower costs money ! The more you want the more you need to spend it just that simple. I know Yogi's car has been in development for over 4 years and he works bloody harf to support it. Luke How long have you had the CRessida now ?? ANy what have you already spent on it.....Work it out as a Dollars per month and your probably not far of each other. I don't know what you have spent dollar for dollar on yours and its not my place to say what Yogi has. I know my car has seen over $50K..So what its my only vice.
There will always be a fastest, quickest, nicest etc in the club. We should all keep in mind that the quickest won't always be. The nicest wasn't always and we are all just here to have fun. Lets get back to helping each other and all of us benefiting. Thats why Luke started this club. Lets keep it that way !

Iggy, I just bought Izzy's red Celica, so I'm keen to take it down the creek and have a go at your time. It goes pretty hard for an 18R-C. Certainly a lot harder than my old 18R-C ever did. I'll have to get the night off work, but hopefully I can get a run in pretty soon.

Sean,
Looking at the World Camry 1/4 database, I'm going to have to restore some Aussie pride soon! Analysis tells me there is at least 0.5 sec improvement gained by different driving style.
Check out the flat 16 from the port and polished 3S-FE.

I hate to be saying this to grown men, but grow up kiddies!
Yes, running a carlub, or even organising a single event, is DAMN hard work. You have to go through legalities, try and get as many "definite" members coming as possible ... do the works.
None of us members (that I'm aware of) think it's easy. And when we criticize, hopefully most of the time it is constructive. Giving you guys thoughts for next time. I don't want to step up and take club management, or even organise an event, because I'm aware of what it takes, in terms of time especially (and extra grey hairs).
And in response to criticism of yogi's car... anyone have a faster early model celica around? anyone? thought not. He's spent a lot of money on a car he loves, and he has an amazing sleeper that eats WRX's for brekkie without even glancing at the NOS switch. It may have taken a lotta money, but he has a car I'm very jealous of, and I'm sure most of you guys are too. 1.6L car doing 12.3 quarters? I doubt there are many people out there doing better than that (rotors not included).
Now that I've had my little rant, and hopfully placated a few people, I'm gonna go rotate the wheels on my car.

Luke and Yogi: I think you both have great cars, put a lot of work into them. Now is the time to appreciate each others great achievements. Everyone likes to do their car their own way and you should both respect that......
