By 1J I assume you mean 1JZ?
So are you after a pre converted MX73/MX83? 'cuz they don't come with a 1JZ.
If the manual is any heavier than the auto, it'll be purely due to the gearbox itself.
Leather seats are just havier than cloth ones, so if you want leather, you'd gonna end up with a heavier car.
Sorry, don't know the curb weight of the MX73 and MX83 off the top of my head. I'd imagine the MX73 is lighter though, as older cars generaly are (when talking about this sorta era).

yeh sorry i meant pre-conversion. thanks for input. Also read that mx73 were about 200kg lighter than mx83, just need the curb weights confirmed, lighter shell would prob b the way to go.

Is it for the track or cruising?
If it's just a cruiser get something comfy. The 1JZ has plenty of power and potential for more power. So if it's just a cruiser, just chuck on some more power to counter the weight.

just cruiser n have bit of fun racing mates.. have been looking around n see that mx73 go for around 8/10k, mx83 12/13/14k. might be best to purchase a mx73 and pay the rest 4/5k and buy big single turbo setup with fuel upgrade etc..

was also wondering wat 1/4 time a cressida with a 1j 5spd would be passing.. lets just say it had 3"exhaust new front mount 15psi.
just read few 1j's in cressidas with similar mods achieving 14's high 13's.. dont mk4 supras do mid 13's standard? the exhaust 15psi n frontmount should make up for the diff between the 1j and 2j(weight wise they should weight similar cressi 1j and mk4)? so shouldn be achieving similar times?

my race wieght in qld was 3460 pounds with me and the car on the scales. thats with 20 litres of fuel and a full nos bottle, i need to lose 200 pounds to get down to minimum wieght.
you average 1j auto cressida will run between a 13.5 and a 14.3
mine ran a 13.7 at 105 first time out with factory jzx81 half cut air box standard cooler.
manual are slower because tey are harder to get off the line cleanly, and most people cant change gears quicker than an auto can do it.
guys with twin pipes and new intercoolers and 15 psi tend to run 13.0

a lot faster,
through 300 kilo in your car and you will notice a huge difference.
ie put 4 people in your car say at 75 kilos each, go for a drive and feel what a slug it makes it.

I think that if Shanes car weighed 300kg less initially it would probably run about the same time but with higher MPH. The 60ft is awesome and that has to do with the weight transfer it has and that it is setup bloody well. If you lose 300kg, then there is less weight transfer and could hurt the 60foot times if it fries the tyres off the line. Of course, if the setup was adjusted and the 60foots were good then there will be an improvement in ET as well.
BTW Matt my car weighs 1280ks with me in it and a full tank of petrol. Now all I need is to make some power and get my gearing sorted ![Smile](images/smiley_icons/icon_smile.gif)

chris is spot on the money.
i cant lose any more wieght in the back end. its running no boot trim spare jack or rear seat as per sport compact rules. no i have the cage this has added weight to the rear of the car too.
all my wieght it up front, so that will help weight transfer more. i have been able to control this by changing the hieght of the front suspension pretty well.
i will most likely pull the ac out, and see what else i can get rid off to save wieght up front.
i want a wheel off the ground, and im not far off it.

thanks, yeh have read that jzx81 fits straight into mx83, and crossmember off chaser is not needed in the late 91/92 model, it bolts straight up.. i will be putting engine in with mechanic mate and boys help. this is wat im thinking, buy the jzx81 1j mark2 engine and r154 separate. I know id need to get a microtech ltx12. ill be able to get it wired up, but do i need to install the standard ecu for anything?!

are no.
there would be the woeght of a pubic hair between them mate.
grandes are heavier due to abs, leather trim, the controlls in the dash have sligtly more componentry so that adds a few kilos as well.
