I'm starting to look for a TA22 Celica. Must be 1971, prefer the following:
> tidy body and paint
> current rego
> located in Sydney or NSW
> the less mods the better, no re-welding suspension pickup points or other radical stuff. 2TG ok.
> manual
I'm in no rush, so if you see one let me know jon@ans.com.au
thx

How much would you be willing to pay ..
I have a 1971 - that i might part with for the right amount
Its modified though just bigger sway bars - hotter 2tb ( single cam ) few internal changes like seats /stereo/steering wheel
Has some rust coming thru - but is overall not in bad shape considering its age - 70 % of the rust repais have ben done - with the remaining being done soon
Im in victoria though

hey dude just to let you know
i bought a 100% straight 1975 ta22 about two years ago, it had a tiny bit of rust and the paint on it was brand new, it was missing a battery and interior hoodlining, but was lowered and heavy duty springs, the old 2t was a shitter of course but i wasnt worried about it as i had a spare 2tg at home, this car cost me $1200, i sanded it down and reprayed it another colour i liked more (sapphire blue with lilac pearl) and swapped in the 2tg bought a set of 45mm twin webbers and new tyres
so far im up to about $3500 but i am laughing about it
my point is if you can hold on long enough there is always a better car around the corner that needs mimimal to no work to be done, the first car i ever bought was for $4500 which i thought was great but then i was always seeing cheaper ones around
food for thought
cheers

Thanks for the replies. Classique, I'll wait and see if a really tidy bodied '71 turns up, and it sounds like you're not in too much of a hurry to sell either.
Wayne, thanks for the dollars advice because I'm not really sure what I should be paying for such a car. Did you strip, sand and respray your self or send it out, and if so how much was the job? I'd prefer it if someone had already done all the body work, so I don't have to even though I'm happy to do mechanicals and dro pin a 2tg. How long did it take to find your '75?

i stripped and sanded it myself and then bought 8 litres in total of two pack paint, which cost me $225 through work
as i work at a sign company i took the car into the sprayshop and for free the car was painted by the leading hand there who did a top job , theres around 3 coats on it plus th pearl plus the clear coat afterwards it came up really special
the 2tgeu i already had in another car at home but recently i purchased one for $500, so maybe hard to find but definatly worth waiting for a cheaper one, its hard to tell how far its travelled as the odometer on the ta22's only goes up to 99,999 kms before it returns to 00,000 but it goes very hard, its actaully for sale at the moment as i dont think im going to use it anymore (too many projects)...so if you find a nice ta22 with a shit motor bring it over and we can work something out if you want, i can help to put it in and then you can pay it off if you like
like everything about cars that i aquire, i just happen to stumble upon them i dont really look, and the good deals just pop up from time to time, so i buy them straight away, i guess im lucky in that way, when i do look it takes to long
cheers

anywhere between 2500 - 3500 for a stock unit - More if its been modified - it would have to eb super clean though and Low KM for that money
mine - for example - with mods and AFTER cleaning up and cam work - would probably looking about 4 grand - but not at the moment
