20v wiring into AE86 (specific Q's) Fri, 18 November 2005 11:18 Go to next message
Hello

Im just in the middle of wiring up my late model silver top into my sprinter and ive come up with a few questions I cant seem to find information I need. Sooo here goes...

* When getting power from the 20v alternators white B wire (thick ones) where can I connect it so the car has power fomr the alt? Was thinking to connect the 20v wire to existing ae86 alt white wire? that safe and could it work?

* I have no igniter for my ae86 and have two wires a Black-Yel (ignition conformation signal) and a Black (ignition timing signal) from the 20v. Can I wire these to recieve signals from the ignition coil or is there another way?

* I am having trouble wiring up 2 elec fuel pumps. Silly question but where is the circuit opening relay located in the ADM AE86? does anyone have an idea of which wires I connect the fuel pumps and get the 20v afm fuel cut switch working? Thinking of just wiring it up from ignition switch but i want the fuel to cut when the engine is off not the car.

Anyway Im gonna dig up some more information else where, tech books, manuals and hopefully widthdraw my questions becuase ive found an answer. Thanks guys!

no offence, but you arent ready for the answers to these questions.

i'll try anyway.

Yes, you can just wire the thick wire from 20 valve dizzy to the sprinter (2) thick white wires, but there is more to wiring the internally regulated alternator than this. you will use some of the wires in the plug that the old 4AC voltage regulator plugged into.

4ACs do not have ignitore, you need one for your 4AGE

the 4AC does not have a circuit opening relay as it only has one mechanical fuel pump, this is irrelevant as you dont need to use a circuit opening relay anyway, just use a normal relay triggered by the "engine running" signal. DO NOT WIRE IT UP TO THE IGNITION

read heaps more, search heaps more and get hold of someone who can give yopu a hand, again no offence, but i knew loads more than you, and i still needed my mate to give me a hand working stuff out with my 4AGE conversion

good luck!

Alright no problems, kinda embaressed but I get the picture. Im no machanic but Im trying to learn about my car. So far I have done everything from getting the car roadworthy to suspension and the putting in the 20v. and so far so good, must admit there was alot of reading but coming along. Thanks for the wiring help.

* going to connect the S IG L wires into the spot your talking about

* get an igniter, an ae92 one should be fine? I dont know with the igniter question as I thought it wouldn't really matter as the distributer can retard or advance the timing according to engine sensors.

* Perhaps run it through an unused fan relay triggered by that "engine running" signal?

Im going to finish it up as much as possible and get my machanic the once over and tell me "how much of an idiot i am that i put that there..."

must admit that this is fun though

what did u do about the dizzy

did u modify the firewall

if u are runnin std ecu then u need the dizzy

or a dli converter which i havnt heard much good things about

anyway sounds like u have a bigger problem than what you really think

especially if u have no ignitor and if u have moved the dizzy

might just be easier to fit a microtech ltx10

i saw a sprinter shell that had used to have a 20 valve in it.

the dent bashed in the firewall to fit the dizzy was a lot shallower than i thought it would be.
