Troy's 1jz MX83..EDIT:SOME HEKTIK ZORST PICS Wed, 23 November 2005 08:53 Go to next message
This is the story about a guy and his 1992 MX83 1jz cressida grande...

I got her as a stocker in november 2003, drove it straight from the dealership and to my suspension guy...who fitted a set of aurora low springs for me, was meant to be a 1-1.5" drop, ended up being about 4 inch drop in the back!
Got it back looking a bit like this.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~justinandjules/cress/cress40.JPG

The whole reason i bought the car was to do a 1jz swap (insipred by 1jz-747) and after selling my RS2000 escort, cash was transferred to justjap and shortly after early in the new year, this arrived...i bought it sight/sound unseen as the nearest JZX81 cut that i could buy was 600km away. 80,000kms it read...apparently...never seen a auto shift knob wear out at 80,000km!!

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~justinandjules/cressida/cut.jpg

A week later, this happened.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~justinandjules/cress/7mout.jpg

All i changed was to put a walbro in, and the cut was missing the pipe that goes from the cooler to the throttle body, so a consitina(sp) camry pipe was adapted that inflated under boost haha....

The swap took the old man and i about a week off and on and the only things that didnt work were the power aerial (still doesnt) and the car would only shift into 4th at 170km/h Sad

After 10 months...YES 10 MONTHS, entire days tralling the net, asking a zillion questions, having the box serviced/inspected/flushed countless times, studying diagrams etc etc...i was about 1 week off driving to see sideshow who promised to fix it when a lightbulb went off above me. Duh, unplug the ABS computer you idiot.

The stock cooler was used, along with the stock cressida exhaust as i had to keep a low profile... Rolling Eyes

That behind me, i did some 1/8th mile stuff at the local strip a few times, complete with bowls hat on parcel shelf Smile Oh and even a track day which was uninspiring.

Note the modded (not finished) grille. Other one got destroyed on the ring road by another car after i didnt use genuine toyota self tappers.....

Fast forward to now...

Work Rezax 17x7 and 17x8 from importbitz.

http://members.optusnet.com.au/~justinandjules/cress/cress13.JPG

Yum Cha cooler mounted up, beginning to dummy the "cut angles" ghetto pipework...which should finally be welded up within the next 2 weeks.

And then today, this arrives! I know...the headers probably won't fit. But it's a 2000km old exhaust from a 6ltr clubsport which i got for basically nothing...and dual 2.75". Probably sound like a fart in a can on a 1j but oh well.

Bought a R154 bell and bits and pieces, then about a week later, bought a R154 package from Importbitz again, along with an ATS 2 way LSD. Just waiting on them to arrive....then its on to suspension mods Very Happy

I'll update on what happens next, all the mods are in my sig.

yep looks good,

i have recently invested in a mx83 very similar to that, except there is a ding in the back quarter and i have the crappy grill on it because its a GLX not grande... cost me $1300 and there is no rust, and everything is in perfect order (even the head gasket Surprised) apart from that rear quarter.

i need to find a set of coilovers for the thing, its not exactly easy to find...

my 1j swap will come when i can get a 1j + r154 package, im not looking for a jzx81, just a 1j + r154... im planning on making a few adjustments to the mounts, might move the engine lower depending on what i can do...

with the 7mge out of the cressida, will become a side project, a space frame chassis, independent suspension and a bit of fibreglass, so i get my very own track car, just change it to some lumpier cams and later make it a bit revvier...

Just welded on the first part of my new zorst, it's 2 pieces of 70mm 403 stainless flanged to the dual 2.5" mild Petespipes dumps. Imma drive it to work tomorrow haha...

"ppl should be out cookin breakfast for somebody, it's like an alarm clock.
wHoooowHoooooooooooo"

GOT DUMP?

EDIT:

Ok....spent the entire week making this.
Petespipes dual 2.5" dumps into 2.75" HSV bends into 3" (couldnt buy 2.75" stainless anywhere) Into opened out HSV cats, then almost straight through dual 3"

$110 for the HSV stuff, $120 worth of second hand stainless pipe and bends, 1 week labour.

Seeing and hearing it crackle like a WRC car (probably 100db at full noise) and near scrape the ground - about 2" at lowest point:
Priceless

Shame the car isnt pulled off the road for good yet...sounds farking awesome.
Back to the cressida stock exhaust tomorrow morning Sad

Should i buy a couple of hotdogs? or some straight through mufflers?

There's a vid from my phone with sound there for you to decide haha. So loud, the phone couldnt keep up Sad
