Guys , ive been told by a few mates that taking my cars ive owned to Ultra Tune is stupid and a waste of money.
now, Obviously im not a complete Idiot and i know how to change most things in the car.
When the car is "Tuned" at "Ultra Tune" or other similar stores
what is actually done ?
Do they actually tune the car with electrical equipment ?
do they actually do ANYTHING i cant do at home in a few hours on a saturday ?
the reason i ask is because ive bought my GZ20 1ggte not more than a month ago and ive changed all the fluids/plugs and shit.
but it hasnt been tuned to run smoooth ...
whats the dilly gents ?

Your mates are correct. The name Ultra Tune is misleading, because there isn't really anything you can "tune". Basically, so long as everything is maintained correctly, all you can really do is set the base ignition timing. The computer does all the rest.
About the only thing you can do to change it slightly is reset the ECU, but that usually makes it worse before it makes it better

And just out of curiosity JCMF, how does toyota tell us to do that on a 1G?
The ECU is in the boot isnt it? Next to the air purifier in mine...
I think. Im still struggling to find the time to really muck around and find everything on this car...

To set the timing, bridge pins T and E1 on the diagnostic plug and rotate the dizzy.
To reset the ECU, easiest way is to pull the EFI fuse (or the battery terminal) for at least 20 seconds.
Your ECU will be near the glove-box, either above, behind or to the side.
