microtech misreading vacume Sat, 18 January 2003 07:45 Go to next message
When the car is not running and at WOT the vac reads no less than 03" vacume. This is a problem because it won't swith over to the 00" map where all the fuel is. Can I adjust this myself either inside the ECU or via the handset or do I have to send it back to microtech and get them to fix it for me?

Pull the vacuum port off the MTX and turn the ignition on. Does it still read 3"Hg?

If so i'd say there is something wrong with your Vac sensor. The sensors are usually very accurate and with it at atmosphere should read 00"Hg.

You could still have vacuum captured somehow, perhaps a solenoid is closing when you turn off your key and it is causing a vacuum lock. Where is it tapped into the manifold also?

yes I had tried that the other day and it still reads 03", I watched it very closly the other day when I went for a drive and it would bounce over to 02" and very rarely 00" for about 1/4 of a second but 99.5% of the time stayed on 03". You can imagine the problems this is causing at WOT, constanly bouncing around between the 05" and 00" maps and also the WOT map (set to 04" before I noticed this problem). This also explains the leaning problems I've been noticing. Does this mean a trip back to microtech for repairs??

Yeah i'd give them a call and see what they say. There may be an internal trimpot for calibration that you could do it yourself. See what they say.

Other thing, just a long shot. If your voltage going to the Microtech is low then the analogue to digital conversions of the vacuum sensor input may be incorrect because its referene voltages arn't up to their normal level.(Long shot)

Gove a call in the morn Smile

we'll now that you mention it, it does read voltage a little bit low. I think it's a bad earth problem. I will run a new earth lead and try that first. I have run a power lead direct from the battery and the earth is just screwed into the body so I will run a direct earth to test it. If all else fails I will ring microtech and ask them.

Yep, do that. You''ll see in the wiring diagram the earth must go direct to the battery.
