1jz stalling

my mate has a 1jz auto soarer and it stalls somtime on cold start up. Ive checked it out im thinking its the fuel pump but hasnt stalled when i can check it so this is just a basic diagnostic guess!! any1 have similar problem????

I had this problem on my old 1jz soarer auto....
I never solved it!!!!!
Has he tried pulling codes off the ECU?

if it was fuel pump, idle is the last place it will die 
more likely to be lack of air or a spark issue than lack of fuel (since idle uses LEAST amount of fuel)
