TOYOTA NATIONALS Sun, 19 January 2003 21:55 Go to next message
There are many people wondering if the Toyota Nationals are in fact happening and if so what is going on. As I'm sure you'll appreciate, organising such an event with a limited budget and resources is not easy particularly in the current climate of insurance and increased regulations.

Although all the ground work has now been done and almost everything is in place, we are still holding off just a little longer for a few final details to be confirmed. Rather than let people hanging though I have created this post firstly, to inform everyone of the basic plan for the weekend and secondly to get a feel for the level of interest.

The Toyota Nationals is open to all piston-powered Toyotas and will be held in Dubbo NSW over the Easter long weekend from Friday the 18th to Sunday the 20th April. The Toyota Nationals can be thought of a national level club event with the Toyota enthusiast in mind. The last time the Nationals was run the range Toyotas was huge from early originals to modified right up to late model performance imports. We expect to turn-out this year to be same if not better.

There are 3 events planned. These are:

1) Show and Shine to be held at Dubbo City Toyota/Lexus on Saturday the 19th April. (There is no cost for this).

2) Motorkhana to be held on Sunday the 20th April. The cost is expected to be $40 for a day CAMS licence (L2SE) or $52 for a full CAMS licence (L2NS).

3) Drag Racing to be also held on Sunday the 20th April. This event will be a combined event with the Dubbo City Car Club and run on an ANDRA approved 1/8 mile track. Toyotas will compete in their own bracket but there is the option to have a shoot-out at the end of the day. The cost is expected to be $50 per car that includes all licences and insurance.

We realise the weekend is expensive and are trying our best to reduce the cost of both the motorkhana and drag racing. We are hoping to make the entry fee for each of these events a flat $40.

In order for us to finalise planning for the event I would like to get a feel for the level of interest for the Drags and Motorkhana or the event in general. This will assist us greatly in determining the cost for these events. I look forward to your feedback.

compared to other 'high risk' activities i used to race, the prices youre throwing around are CHEAP. i used to pay up to $110-$120 per event for day licencing/insurance/entry etc. so $40-$50 is nothing IMHO

that said, id be up for the motorkhana. hopefully my weekend is available. but i reckon i can make it so.

cheers

thanks for the clarification grant - Was appreciated

A Suggestion to post the same message in the General Messaages area as well would be good - thats the first place people look

From previous events ive heard this event is really worth attending - and a big turnout from toymods - the CCCQ , and the melbourne based clubs would be awesome - a town overrun by australias best toyotas sounds good to me

Re prices - they are very good - the CCCQ had worked hard to get the insurance to cover it - and i believe theres not much left to organise formally

My next dilemma is - Do I bring the ta22 - or my SOON TO BE PURCHASED ST185 GT4 !! Whee !

Buahaha - Turbos and traction - or full on Old school Carby fed drag pig?

or both !! HEE!!

I've already applied for my Holidays but I am worried that it has been left too late to announce the Nationals are on.

I am in touch with a few different clubs who have made alternate arrangements for easter weekend because nothing has been announced and the clubs have not been kept up-to-date with the progress of the nationals. In fact after contacting a few of them I find that they haven't even been given any indication at all that the Nationals may even be on.

Believe me I hope they are as I am sure it will be a great weekend. But it needs to be announced that they are definitely on soon or you will not get the turnout that a event of this magnitude deserves.

The reason nothing has been said before was simply the fact that up until January we really didn't know if it could be held or not. Andra only approved the drags in mid December and even now we are still looking for 2 CAMS Officials to run the motorkhana.

We decided it was better to announce the Nationals late, with reasonable confidence it would go ahead, rather than early and again disappoint people.

If you have the contact details (email preferably) of these other clubs I would appreciate it.

sorry!....
Iam already booked in to the Easter Nationals!
Last two years Ive made the effort to put time aside for the Toyota Nationals, but the insurance issue has let us all down.
This year iam getting in early with the accommodation and so forth.

So you are saying that if you can't find 2 officals for the motorkhana event that the Nationals will not be going ahead.

or

If everything else has been organised and the event is going ahead with or without the motorkhana, why not release that information now so that people knew what was going on. That would allow them time to organise holidays and accomodation, and also allow clubs to notify their members and organise what they wish for the event.

No. Either way the event will go ahead with or without the Motorkhana. The Toyota Car Club of VIC are CAMS affiliated and they are currently discussing with their members the possibility of two CAMS officials travelling to Dubbo for the event. In any case we have up to 6 weeks before the event to lodge the application.

We plan to officially launch the event on February 1. If CAMS officials cannot be found in time then we will most likely drop this from the entry form and add it later if possible.

Please remember, this event is not a simple club weekend activity nor is it as big as something like the Four's and Rotary Nationals; it is inbetween. We rely heavily on the backing of sponsors; many of which have only recently been able to fully commit.

As I said before, we decided it was better to announce the event late rather than early and have to cancel because of last minute problems. At present the only potential issue is the motorkhana so we see no reason the event cannot push forward.

Don't get me wrong Grant. I think you and the others are doing a GREAT job. It's just that I was told last year at the All Toyota Day in August (I think) when I asked people from the CCCQ about the nationals, that the insurance problem was fixed and they only had to organise the events.

Re: TOYOTA NATIONALS Thu, 23 January 2003 03:43 Go to previous messageGo to next message
That's probably true but the biggest hurdle this time has been sponsorship. Without financial backing the cost of the event per person would of been huge. If you would like to email me your contact details I would be happy to discuss the Nationals with you personally.

On another note, I notice there are plently of people viewing this thread but not commenting. As the event hasn't been run for a few years we are unsure exactly what the level of participation will be. therefore we really do need to know what people are interested in (show and shine, drags or motorkhana) so we can do some final planning. I'm not looking for an in-depth discussion, only a quick comment like "I'd do a motorkhana" etc.

Thanks.

IMHO i think you need to have the 3 events as well as a dyno shootout with different classes. Similar to what we do with the Toymods Dyno Day

I'd also like to see a cruise to somewhere over the weekend.

1st of all, grant and others thanks for doing such a great job in preparing this event. I've been to a few nationals now and i've seen how much work goes on for the organisers and that is without me even seeing the behind the scenes.

I'll be in for all the events. I think the events listed are great and can involve everyone.

GEE120, a dyno day wouldn't really be cool at the nationals. It takes a lot of time and isn't really that interesting. Also, Frank Armstrong is the only Dyno place in dubbo and getting him to open up the easter weekend would be rather hard! Smile

We considered it but there simply wouldn't be enough time to hold it. In any case, most people have already had their cars dyno'd at the Toymods dyno days so we doubted if anyone would pay the money to do it again.

dyno shoot outs can be cool but also VERY boring for spectators. Figures on a page are one thing, but what excites me heaps about THESE nationals is that we will actually see some drags and the cars really performing.

I would be up for show and shine, drag, and possibly motorkhana. The latter is not that important to me personally.

Would be nice to know FOR SURE what is happening this year Grant, i keep hearing maybes and mostlys. Sorry to be a PITA but i need certainty, and soon, if i wish to get the time off work, away from family, away from uni, and to sort some accomodation out in dubbo! I understand all the set-backs, but a big fat YES its happening might help Smile

benny!! silly boy - you should listen at the toymods meetings, heaps has been said about the Toyota Nationals there.
As far as i know, there isnt an Official Toymods area there. Best bet is to bring this up at the next meeting again, and see what people are thinking of doing.

hey all
i'll be there for sure
the Toyota Nationals webpage should be up by early next week (when i get my finger out)
stay posted i'll notify you all when its up and running

If its any consolation anyone that enters the drags is welcome to have my dyno plus fitted in the car at the time of their run.

I can then give them a printout of power, 0-100 and they will also get a 1/8 mile time .

The printout will involve a small donation to the Nationals

The National will be going ahead !

Guys I spoke to grant yesterday afternoon and they are dotting the T's and crossing the I's.. No wait that was last year Wink They actually have it sorted this time round and it is indeed going ahead. They are just finalising some trivialities.

The motorkhana is still alittle unsure as they are awaiting written approval from cams but either way the weekend will happen.

Luke,

Dyno shootouts are like the drags, Some people like em some don't its personal preference. The last 3 Toymods Dyno days have seen over 60 entrants and well over double that as spectators. so they can't be too boring, Personally I enjoy both for very different reasons !

As for Toymods having a presence I am sure there will be alot of toymodders there and once the board gets together we can announce wether or not it will be an official event.

yeah rod i'm not doubting that Dyno Days are popular, i just think that when time is at its limits, its more exciting to see cars shoot up a drag strip than sit on rollers, for the public. I enjoy the dyno days, and i'm sure if the nationals was over 4 days you could devote a day to it.

I think pauls gtech will be fun again, its fair and can be done at anytime, day or night. CANT WAIT. Fun times again!

I'm definately gonna try and get to the TOYNATS.

Pity I don't have a carport atachment to the tent so I can park the supra under cover. ... gotta get the bitch going first (grrr).

ok, looking at the other thread there seems to be some accomodation availamable that the Toyo Nat's crew will be organising. Ill be checking it all out once the Nataionals website is up and running.... and if i dont like it - there will still be tent.

Pete - my tent is WAAAAYYYY bigger than yours... 2 rooms, each can sleep up to 8. Then an awning.

Ben - yeah dude... but no complaining

Gary - my car gets the awning dude!! Razz but of course u are welcome if we tent it up!
Like i said though - i would prefer hotel type shyte. Would be awesome if we all got adjacent rooms! Ill be looking into it this week!

As some of you may of seen, the Toyota Nationals website (www.toyota-nationals.org.au) is now up and running. Over the next few days the site will be updated and added to, so keep checking it for these changes. The entry form download is one of those additions and this should be available by Wednesday.

Ok I realllly wanna go to this.Very Happy

Does anyone know how long roughly it takes to get to Dubbo? Do we organise our own accomodation or is the Toynats team booking heaps of rooms?

How many other people are thinking of going? There will probably be roughly 3-4cars from the central coast as far as I know so far.

It would be more fun if we all crooz together Nod

Some accommodation has been booked. This is one of the pages that will be added to the site this week.
