i have a t28bb off a jap spec s15 and upon removing the exaust housing i found this Sad

the hosing itself dosent seem to be damaged just a little pitted (nothing near as bad as the plate behind the exaust wheel)

the only thing i can think my have caused its somthing blown out the exaust (maybe bits of valve or piston ring?) as there is only a minimal amount of play in the shaft. anyone agree or dissagree?

secondly would it be posible to have another t28 exaust wheel put on and balanced etc without machining the housing or does each housing get machined to each individual wheel?

p.s sorry about the size of the pics.

I had both of my 2J turbo's rebuilt with steel wheels, and had a bit of a chat to the turbo guru. It's all fairly mysterious to me, but from what I gather, it depends entirely on the application, and how well you want it to run. Re-balancing the wheel is an absolute MUST due to the RPM that they operate at, however machining the inner housing may not always be required. I think it's one of those things that is a good idea to get done while it's all apart, but not absolutely essential. As long as the fins clear the housing of course, and also providing there isn't a massive gap between the fins and the inner housing wall. From what I was told, the smaller the gap the greater the efficiency, to a point at any rate. He started talking about turbulance and other funky stuff playing a role when you get really close, but that's where he lost me.

Again, I'm no expert here - this was just me quizzing the turbo guy cause I was curious myself.
